texasbassslayer Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 I have a 100 dollar gift card to tackle warehouse that i got for christmas, and i want to put it into some use. I want to buy a new rod. I have a 7ft med/hvy (casting) and a 6'10" med (spinning). I don't really like the 7ft med/hvy and I am hesitant on buying it again. Any suggestions? Quote
texasbassslayer Posted January 4, 2017 Author Posted January 4, 2017 The rod I am looking at is a 7ft med/hvy xfast action Powell Inferno Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 4, 2017 Posted January 4, 2017 What don't you like about what you have? What do you want to do with the rod? Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 I own an original Powell max 683CEF. That rod is super versatile. They now offer it in a Powell Inferno series. Go read the Tackletour review of the rod. Go here. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewpowell683cxfast.html I know there is a bit of difference in graphite but the overall rod will play the same. I love my 683 for jigs, swim jigs, texas rigs, heck it will handle a ton of baits. It is a 1/4 to 3/4 rating but in the Tackle Tour review they even threw a 2 1/2 swimbait and it handled it fine. If you really want the longer rod I would go with the 702mh cef. Quote

The rod I have feels dead and I don't feel any sensitivity like i do with any other rod I have ever used. I need a good all purpose rod before i want to start expanding my arsenal. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 Another good option would be a Dobyns Fury FR704C or FR 734C. Dobyns fish about a half step lighter than they say so those rods are probably as versatile rod as they make. They sell for $110 so the price is the same. Quote

Super User webertime Posted January 4, 2017 Super User Posted January 4, 2017 The Fury does feel a little like the Inferno (yes I have fished both, own a Fury). You want a "crisper" feeling rod if I am reading you right. Well the Crucial for 125-180 is awesome as are the Daiwa Tatula's for ~$150 (I freekin' love them). Closer to $100 the St. Croix Mojo and the "*** oh man", would be what you are looking at. Ducketts, Carrot Stix and Veritas all feel good but I still hear of (see) breakage issues. 1 Quote
basss Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 What you fish most of the time should determine what rod to get. Especially since you don't like your rod. Quote
WPCfishing Posted January 8, 2017 Posted January 8, 2017 If you like a Fuji ACS reel seat you may want to consider a Diawa Tatula XT. I own a couple of the earlier versions. The Team Lews rod. They are light weight, very sensitive, cast distance with ease and have plenty of back bone for hook sets. Check them out when you get a chance. Hope this helps. Quote
