ElectricAngler Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 Hey guys, sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask but I am noticing something iffy about a new reel I purchased today. The reel is a tatula type-r, and I am pretty happy with it. Just sitting around playing with it however I have noticed that occasionally when I press the button and begin reeling something is not quite engaging properly. The button snaps back to it's original position along with the line guide, but the handle does not turn freely. Rather than tap it lightly and watch it go I would have to crank it to turn the spool. Pressing the button again seems to reset whatever is causing the issue, or sometimes giving the handle a flick causes it to correct itself. I'm pretty new to this type of reel, my only other baitcaster is a revo sx and I have not encountered this before. Maybe it's pretty typical and I just don't know. Hoping someone can give me a yes or no on whether or not I should send this reel back for a replacement. Was hoping to take it out this weekend, but I'll gladly ship it back if that's what needs to happen. Thanks for any help, glad I found this place Quote
Nor-Cal Basser Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I've had this happen very infrequently on my Tatula. It only happens if I re-engage the clutch very slowly. Even then, it's only happened maybe three times and I've had that Tatula since 2013. Take it out and fish it. If it's consistently happening with just normal use, I would send it in. Quote
ElectricAngler Posted December 30, 2016 Author Posted December 30, 2016 Thanks for the response, it is much more frequent than that for me. I contacted the seller and they were quick to say it sounds defective and authorized a return. Guess I'll stick with the revo this weekend. Quote
jsh32 Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I have to Tat CT and I haven't had this happen ever before. I would contact Daiwa and see if they could help before I used it too much, since they could say it was your fault. Quote
SFL BassHunter Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 I have a Tatula Tactical, Type R and a CT, I haven't experienced this on any of them. Sounds like there is something going on there. Have you tried playing around with your drag, brakes and spool tension? Doubt any of these would cause that issue but who knows. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 30, 2016 Posted December 30, 2016 This isn't all that rare. It's not "right" per say but it doesn't necessarily warrant return. If the handle is turned in a positive manner as in normal fishing you probably won't experience any problem. If so return it then. After the first cleaning it will likely work better too. Quote
