freelancer27 Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 Hi all, once again I would like to use the brilliant brains of this community for advice. I am planning to purchase some reel oil and greece from TW. Since I have 4 reel brands I am not sure if there are products that fit all. * Lews (Pro spool, Inshore2) * Daiwa Coastal * Shimano Curado i * Pflueger President. Would be great if you could recommend some products. Thanks again fellas! Quote
OnthePotomac Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I don't know what TW offers, my regulars are Yellow Rocket Fuel for spool bearings, ReelX on worm gear and drive shaft bearing and Super Lube, or Yamaha Blue Marine grease on gears. Drags get Cal's or Shimano drag grease. I had been packing my pinion bearings in grease for years, but I am now removing all trace of grease in them and dipping them in TSI301. Works great! When it comes to lubricants, you will find everyone has their favorites, regardless of reel manufacturer. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted August 31, 2016 Super User Posted August 31, 2016 From what TW offers I'd pick up the boca Lightning lube oil and the Okuma/Cal's universal drag and gear grease. You'll have enough to last you quite some time for about $18. For me - grease goes on gears, drag washers 'if necessary' worm shaft, and main frame bearings. Oil for the spool bearings and other non frame bearings. Others reel techs will have their own methods but that's what was advised by 'the best' reel tuner in the business. For me it was hard to argue against that. Quote
S. Sass Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 I use a all-purpose 3n1 oil on my bearings. I flush the bearings of grease and heavy oils then a couple drops 3n1. Works great and is almost always readily available locally. And it only takes a drop or two here and there so it lasts. I have some white colored reel grease. Not positive it's reel grease but looks like and feels like all the reel grease I've seen. I've had so long the label is gone for the gears and contact points. A little bit goes a long ways so it's lasted for ever. 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted August 31, 2016 Super User Posted August 31, 2016 I like Lucas reel oil. As for Greece, it's west of Turkey and southeast of Rome. Sorry, I just had to do that....lol. Hootie 5 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted August 31, 2016 Posted August 31, 2016 There's no magic to it. Marine grease, drag grease if needed, gear oil on level wind, non spool bearings and sliding parts, a light oil for bearings(3in1, Remoil, Shimano bantam even sewing machine oil ) 3 Quote

I thought the 321 is the one to get Quote

I thought the 321 is the one to get TSI301 is 321 with solvent. TSI321 is straight oil. It is fantastic. I mix it 20% oil to 80% solvent and soak my bearings in a small jar. I use denatured alcohol for the solvent. Then take the bearings out and put them on a paper towel and let the excess oil and alcohol will wick away. Now they are good to go. LIghtly oiled and spin like crazy. I got all this infomation from Alan Tani's excellent site on reel repair. www.alantani.com Quote
Super User fishwizzard Posted September 1, 2016 Super User Posted September 1, 2016 When I used to be into shooting, I settled on ATF fluid as my oil and white lithium grease as my grease. Obviously high temp was a concern for that application, but I use them for everything else and have never had an issue. Quote
An Outdoor Guy Posted September 3, 2016 Posted September 3, 2016 ardent reel butter oil and quantum hot sauce reel grease. but for the best bang for your buck switch the hot sauce grease for ardent reel butter grease. both of them together costs about $10 ($5 a piece) its really good stuff. Quote
Dan_the_fisher Posted September 4, 2016 Posted September 4, 2016 I'm completely not a fan of the ardent reel care products, they just never done it for me. I use boca oil and Shimano drag Greese as my two forms of lubrication on everything. Also another good thing to research is bearing flush, cleanings the bearings is the most important part of maintaining them. Quote
