Length and action for jig and worm rod

Hey guys Im looking for a new jig and worm rod. I want to be able to cast/pitch jigs and worms both out in the open and to cover like docks with this rod. I was wondering what you guys think would be the best length and action for this. I was looking at either 7'3" MH or a 7'4" H. I dont necessarily want these to be flipping sticks, more so a good all around bottom contact rod. Thanks for the help guys

MH and Hvy are subjective and mean different things in different brands. A 7' 3/8-1oz fast action Rod with good backbone is pretty versatile. That's a Hvy in some cases or a MH in St croix rods.

My jig and worm rods are 6'10", 5 & 6 power, fast action because that is the length, power and action that works for me. I cast and retreive jigs keeping in or near with the structure, You need to select rods based on your preference and fishing style.

My jig rod -- football head, etc, is a MH/F but fairly soft.  It lets me impart the action I want on that type of jig.  I run 65lb braid on it.

My worm rod is a fairly stiff, 6'6", also MH/F, but lighter and higher modulus graphite.  It's spooled with 12lb Trilene XT and is mostly dedicated to Texas rigs.

My weightless plastic rod is a M/F 6'6" medium modulus graphite rod with a 3600-sized reel and 10lb Trilene XT.  It's mostly, but not always, used for whacky rigs.  It's good at dropshotting, too; it's within spitting distance of what most would consider spinning gear best for, but it works well and has produced some really nice bass for me.

I found that to find THE jig rod for yourself will take some trial and error. All the recommended rod manufacturers have a different "feel". I have gone through several rods to find the tip and power that is right for me. I use a 734 Dobyns for football jigs and dragging worms in rocky or open bottom and a 735 for heavy cover. I went through half a dozen rods before I found what was a fit for me

Personally I use a 7' 2" Heavy Fast tatula and love it, but like others said I would highly recommend feeling the rod in person. One companies Heavy might be another companies Medium Heavy. The Tatula I feel is what I would expect a heavy to be like, meanwhile I have a 7' 6" Vendetta and that thing a freaking broom stick, great for frogging which is why I bought it but I don't use it for much else. Both rods are Heavy Fast rods though.

says the person selling rods...ive never found it fun at all buying a new rod to find out i dont like it for its intended purpose

Well I never oversell. I know not everyone has the budget or time to spend experimenting. That's why I said sometimes. BassResource.com is the place to come for advice and feedback prior to purchases though.

One rod, try seven. If I had to pick one (I hope I never have to) I'd go with a 735. Either a Lamiglas Infinity or Dobyns Champ Extreme. 

If I wanted more length I'd go UMBX 707MH or an NRX 893.

I have 2 identical rod-n-reels, one for Texas Rigs & one for Jigs!

Crucial CRC-X610MHXF, it replaced a G. Loomis that someone stepped on & in my opinion it is every bit the rod the Loomis was. 

Length: 6' 10"

Line: 10-20 lb

Lure: 3/8-3/4 oz

Power: Medium Heavy

Action: Extra Fast
