Molay1292 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Fished today, had a C-rig on one of the newer green GLX 854 C. Put it down after using it for a while and tried some top water, when I picked it back up the tip was broken, no idea what happened. Anyway I have three options available for getting it replaced. Option 1. Send it to Gloomis for eval and possible replacement if deemed material defect. If not pay the 125.00 for the replacement. Option 2. Send it in under the expediter program at 125.00 plus shipping and have it replaced no questions asked. and Option 3. Since I purchased it at American Legacy they offer the option of purchasing another rod of equal or higher value and they will replace the broken rod at no charge. Retail is 450.00, second time rod had been used. Looking for opinions Quote
GaterB Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 id have them take a look at it, especially since it was the 2nd time using it. I'd want an assessment and a reason why my GLX decided to become a two piece before ever really reaching its potential! Quote
KP Duty Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Crap...the last time I used expiditer, they mailed you out a new stick immediately, and you had like 2 weeks or something to send in your old one. I guess that was maybe 10 years ago or so, but that's a substantial difference. 1 Quote
EllisJuan Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Expeditor program should be $100 including shipping if you are in the US. 1 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted July 21, 2016 Super User Posted July 21, 2016 I only have one experience to share. I broke a GLX spinning rod (BSR852), called Loomis customer service and told them the break was definitely my fault and that since I had reeled in over 2,000 fish on that rod it obviously wasn't a manufacturing defect. They said send it in anyway and they would "give me a good deal". I ended up with a replacement 852S JWR for a total of $35. Maybe they were being generous at that time so I can't say if everyone would get the same deal. You might want to call customer service for some advice before you decide what to do... Here's my original report: FWIW 2 Quote

They sent the new rod, I sent the old one back in the same tube and they paid shipping. It cost $100 total! Jeff 4 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 21, 2016 Super User Posted July 21, 2016 The service is hassle-free. 1 Quote
Fishin' Fool Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Unfortunately where the break is it isn't likely going to be a manufacturer defect. I'd go with Options 2 or 3. Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted July 21, 2016 Posted July 21, 2016 Seeing as we are playing with your money, I would buy an NRX rod from American Legacy and have them replace the broken GLX rod for free... 1 Quote

I'm at the age where I'm starting to gripe about things going up...and I'm only 38. 1 Quote

Molay1292 Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Long story short, contacted G Loomis and ended up with a NRX 822S SYR 2 Quote

Molay1292 Posted July 23, 2016 Author Posted July 23, 2016 Called Shimano and told them I wanted to send the rod back on expediter service and of course they asked what rod, well they were out of stock until September on the GLX 854C that I broke and asked if I wanted something comparable. I selected the GLX 822S SYR and It was out of stock and was not going to be available until Nov. I asked if they had it in the NRX could I upgrade, they told me that they don't usually but in my situation they would. Charged me 85 upgrade fee and 100 expediter fee 185 total. I originally got the 854c on sale for around 300 so I made out ok on the deal. On 7/21/2016 at 7:39 AM, 00 mod said: Just used Expiditor service last month. Jeff You're correct, Shimano charges 100 it was American Legacy that charges 125 for their expediter service, and they bill your credit card for the full amount of the replacement rod until you return the other, Shimano does not charge your card for the replacement unless you take longer than 30 days on your return. Shimano was a pleasure to deal with on this return. 3 Quote
