Jim Hill Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Ok, not tackle per say but doesn't fit really anywhere else. I wear prescription glasses. That being said I went to wally world and got some clip ons. I've been thru one too many pair of either getting broken or bent. I'm tired of clip ons! Can anyone suggest some good fishing sunglasses that fit OVER my current glasses? I know i've seen some people on fishing shows with them. I want specific ones for fishing, you know polarized and what not. Anyone know of any?
Jim Hill Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 website error made me like triple post! Sorry about that. I will check out the cocoons, I suppose. 1
Smokinal Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Just for the heck of it, I would stop into my local optometrist and see how much a second pair of polarized prescrips would be. It may be better money spent on a correct pair instead of 3-4 cheap, non working pairs.
River Dave Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 If you have optical on your health insurance you may be able to get a pair of prescription shades real cheap. We are allowed one pair every couple of years and I could have had a free pair this year but I need progressive lenses and that's what killed me. Regular prescription polarized fishing glasses would have been no cost but the progressive were like $300 so I didn't do it. That had some nice ones too, would have been great. Now I'm back to clip ons.
avidone1 Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 I wore cacoons for years whenever I went fishing. I always had the transition lenses and they were fine in NY but when I moved to florida I found they just weren't strong enough. Then I got the extra dark transitions or something like that. anyway they are fine and I no longer need the cacoons. Ps......My wife thought they made me look like a toad Oh, a pair of RX glasses was never an option for me. you can't go outside in florida without sunglasses and the constant switching was a deal breaker
Mr Swim Jig Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Cocoons are amazing and worth the money for a fit over.
Jim Hill Posted May 5, 2016 Author Posted May 5, 2016 I am with the VA for my glasses and I do not think they provide sunglasses. I saw some nice cocoon ones on amazon, just might need to get a correct size for my current RX ones
bigbasshunter Posted May 5, 2016 Posted May 5, 2016 Get yourself some Costa Del Mar with Rx 580 glass lens. You'll never regret it. I find myself wearing them more often than any other. Not to dark with the amber based lenses and green tint. I can wear them on overcast days as well as bed fishing on the blues of bluebird days

Super User Wayne P. Posted May 6, 2016 Super User Posted May 6, 2016 There is another brand like Cocoon, they are Fitovers. I have the amber, and grey lenses versions.
KDW96 Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I have tryed all of the flip type, and the fit over type. The fitover or cocoons, eventually cause the bridge of my nose to hurt, because of the extra weight. I went to a local eye glass place, because i was needing new glases. I ended up 253.00 less, but had new glasses and a pair or well fitting polorized prescription glasses. About 125.00 for each. Money well spent.
Tommy X Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 They have Cocoons at Bass Pro, you can try them on there. I love mine.
Super User scaleface Posted May 6, 2016 Super User Posted May 6, 2016 I use the spring loaded clip ons with no problem other than getting bent in my shirt pocket . Just like a buzzbait , I straighten them out . I understand that they are making polarized transition lens . If thats the case it seem like the way to go for a fisherman . I am going to inquire about them next time I need new glasses .
kcdinkerz Posted May 6, 2016 Posted May 6, 2016 I'm in the same boat as you. Went and got a prescription for contact lenses.
Super User scaleface Posted January 28, 2017 Super User Posted January 28, 2017 For a fisherman that needs corrective lens , this might be the answer . I'm going to look into them . http://www.transitions.com/en-us/why-transitions/the-technology/variable-polarization/

I should have gone and got a polarized pair from the optometrist in the first place. Could have saved a lot of money that would have gone towards a correct solution to the issue and saved a lot of frustration trying to find something that works

I must be getting ripped off . I think my last pair of glasses were close to 500 dollars .

Not sure of the correction you need but you may want to look at contact lenses and check out mono vision if you have a problem seeing up close with your correction.

No what I meant was I could have saved a lot of money that WAS spent on trying to find a clip on pair or some that were worn over my prescription glasses that could have been applied to the cost of prescription sunglasses. I know prescription glasses are insane in price but I bought the sunglasses with a pair of regular glasses and the 2nd pair-the sunglasses-which I did not need bifocals in were much more reasonable when bought together. Agree eyeglasses are stupid high in cost but they know you need them. I have no idea what your needs are in eyeglasses but I know I did not pay $500 for both pairs of mine 1
