Super User Senko lover Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 Finally worked up to running a 5k, which has been a goal of mine for a long time. Finished that last night, and tonight I broke my record for my personal fastest mile, 5:42. I don't have the endurance to do extreme distances yet, but I'm working on it. #NewYear'sResolutions #FitnessIsAwesome 2 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 Congratulations on breaking your PB in the 1 mile run!You could focus on getting it under 5 minutes if you want. Quote

That's not an easy thing to do, it took me three years of hard training to accomplish that feat. And I was/am a fairly good runner, when I was thirteen I ran a timed one mile race, and finished with a fast enough time to qualify for the junior Olympics( it was 4:46). I never did officially qualify for the junior Olympics, because the amount of time it would take to train etc. would mean I could barely fish for at least several months. 2 Quote

If you want it bad enough it can be done.I have done many sub 5 minute mile runs while I was also doing powerlifting and other sports. You never know how far you can get unless you work hard for your goals! 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 d**n, 5:46 is pretty good considering you just started running... Getting under 5 takes a long time... But it is such a good feeling when you finally get it, I've always only been interested in long distance running but when I broke 5 minutes in the mile it was still amazing. I need to start running again... I'm so outta shape compared to when I wrestled and ran XC in highschool... What was your 5k time? 1 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted April 3, 2016 Super User Posted April 3, 2016 Very nice job!! I am not a fan of running but i did break into the 4 minute mile category once. We had a gyn teacher in high school who made us run every day and he as talking smack to me cause i said i hated running, i don't get the point of running in a circle etc...he said fine, if you can run a mile in the 4 minute range you don't have to run the rest of the year. Well it took me about 2 months to get it done since i was already pretty close to being able to do it. I then had al the track coaches and cross country coaches asking me to run and i told them not a chance, I did it so I don;t have to run anymore... 2 Quote

Super User buzzed bait Posted April 4, 2016 Super User Posted April 4, 2016 i ran cross country in High School.... only reason was the school i attended you had to either work after school (like cleaning dorms, cleaning the barn, dining hall, etc.) or you could do a sport. Well i cleaned the dining hall one semester and a girl's dorm one semester and swore i wouldn't do that again. so i took up cross country! it was pretty beneficial for me in that it got me prepped for basketball season. then when golf season rolled around it was right back to my usual no exercise routine.... i applaud those who run for fun, but i just can't find the pleasure in it myself. 1 Quote

I'm kind of the opposite, although I'm turning into more of a long distance runner, I've been running miles for a while. It was a mental handicap that I had to break, because I've had the physical ability to do a 5k for probably the last year, but I never wanted to try and push myself really hard. Quote

My first one was 20:45 and every year, my time increased. By the time it was all said and done, I was a 28min runner. Man I hate running.. I will be the first to tell you, I will never run 3 miles again. Quote
