curtis9 Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I recently traded a casting rod for a spinning rod and now have a core 50 without a home. I briefly considered selling it, but figured it would be wiser to get a new rod instead. I currently have a St Croix 68mxf, 7mm and 7mf, a loomis 843, 844, and 853, and a dobyns 735. I'm looking for something slightly lighter than the croix 68mxf to use primarily for small moving baits. I'm considering the croix mlxf, loomis 842 or a dobyns 702. I'm looking to get opinions from people that have used those and how they compare to the croix 68mxf. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 26, 2016 Super User Posted March 26, 2016 Mine is saddled to a G.Loomis GLX MBR842C and spooled with Tatsu #15. This might be my favorite combination. It could do a lot of things, but I primarily use the rig for swim jigs and the Sworming Hornet. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I'm on board with that RW. The Core is too smooth to waste on anything other than moving baits. Quote
curtis9 Posted March 29, 2016 Author Posted March 29, 2016 What's the low end of the weight rating on the 842 glx, and what is the lightest you've thrown. The 842 would be a good fit to finish the mbr trio with the 843 and 844. I'm curious what the sweet spot for that rid is Quote

I'm curious what the sweet spot for that rid is 1/4 - 5/8 is the rating, but I think the sweet spot is 1/2 oz - 5/8 ounce, about the weight of a 3/8 oz swim jig with trailer! Quote
curtis9 Posted April 5, 2016 Author Posted April 5, 2016 I was looking for a used 842glx, and found a good deal on a used 842 nrx which should be here tomorrow. 1 Quote

Does the GLX have a higher lure weight rating? Yes, at least it holds true in their "classic" GLX series. http://www.meltontackle.com/products/g-loomis-classic-mag-bass-rods.html Quote
