Carterjig68 Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Ok so currently I have a spinnerbait rod that is a dobyns savvy 734 (7"3 heavy fast action) and a Chatterbait rod which is a 733 fury (7"3 mh fast action) which feels slower. I am now considering throwing both spinnerbaits and chatterbaits on the 733 and using the 734 for swimjigs with 40 lb braid. Any thoughts? Would this be better since the 734 is pretty stiff? Quote
HookdUP Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I like a mh to truly swim the jig in most wood and grass ...not in Florida ... In Florida I swim it with a 8ft xh ... I often have the same thoughts .. Sounds to me like that will be a better plan to use the 734 for jigs and the MH for the bladed applications Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 Faster and stiffer are two different things. I'd use which ever loads and casts the bait you choose the best. 1 Quote
Megastink Posted March 14, 2016 Posted March 14, 2016 I used to throw a swimjig on a Powell 706 CB: 7' Heavy cranking Rod with 40lb braid. I'd throw all three on the MH. Quote
catch anything Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 I think a lot depends on the kind of swimjig your using. If your throwing big cali swimjigs and 5in trailers I want big beefy rod. If im throwing more coosa river style then I could go down to a mh 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 15, 2016 Super User Posted March 15, 2016 I throw all 3 on MH/F. Never had an issue doing so. 3 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 Use whichever one feels best to you that lets you throw it all day without fatigue. Remember there are no hard or fast rules, sometimes personal preference trumps what a manufacturer may specifically dictate a rod should be used for. I personally like a softer tip for chatterbaits because it lets me whip out of the water and back out easier, but if you like a stiffer tip and it gets the job done and you feel fine at the end of the day, by all means keep doing it. grayAG Posted March 15, 2016 Posted March 15, 2016 6'10'' MH Daiwa Cielo with 14-15 lb line handles all Chatterbait and most spinnerbait duties for me. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 16, 2016 Global Moderator Posted March 16, 2016 I fish spinnerbaits on a 7' 2" MH/F, bladed jigs on a 6' 6" MH/F, and I don't fish swimjigs hardly ever. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted March 16, 2016 Super User Posted March 16, 2016 i fish all 3 of those on the same rod, Daiwa Tatula 6'10" MH/F 1 Quote

IndianaFinesse Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 3/4oz. and up I would go with the heavy, under 3/4 of an ounce the medium heavy would by better. Quote
atcoha Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I use a 7' mh/f for all 3, has been working great for me. One is a duckett, the other a *** black, keep a spinner on one and a chatterbait on the other, and just keep casting. I use the same rods for t-rigged soft plastics too. I use the fury 705cb for deep cranking and squarebills/lipless baits. Quote
strikefc34 Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 I'm a Dobyn's guy and I would use the 733 with braid for the swim jig, the 734 for the spinnerbait and chatterbait. I guess there are other factors like cover, and weight of spinnerbait and swim jig. I fish fairly heavy grass with the swim jig and use a 733 with braid. I throw 1/2 oz spinnerbaits on the 734. The 734 is an extremely versatile rod which is why I own 3, and should have 6!!! Quote
DirtyDeuceGoose Posted March 17, 2016 Posted March 17, 2016 ^^ what he said. If I still had my champions the spinnerbaits and chatterbaits would be on the 34 and the swim jigs on the 33. Just my personal preference for how everything felt and handled. Quote
