Question for the experts!

Is the Dobyns Extreme 795 FLIP (Non HP - Old version)  worth 225$ or should I just go for the cheaper Powell Max 3D 795 or 806?

Thanks for any information.

Go dobyns. The extreme hp is just the extreme rod with hp added to the logo. No change to the blank. Just changed the look at bit to make it seem fresh.   It's a pretty powerful rod.   @Robert Riley has that rod.

I'm going to go with the Powell. Love their rods. Light, powerful, and they look super fresh.

Im not 100% on this but I'm pretty sure the HP is an improved blank, but the Champion XP is the same blank as the old Champion. The Extreme is going to be more sensitive than the Powell but you can find the Powells around $100 and I would not pay $100 more for the Champ Extreme. The Powell is plenty sensitive so to me the price difference is not justifiable. Just my .02.

The XP on the new champ is not an improved blank.

the dx795 is a fantastic heavy cover punching rod. Ive throw up to 1 1/2 oz on it with no issues. No experience with the others.

The Dobyns is definitely worth the $225. The rod is great, and does not feel like a 7'9" rod in your hands. Very light and balanced. It is also versatile, you can comfortably pitch 3/8oz all the way up to 1 1/2oz.

I have used a D765, and I use a DX745. The rods are pretty light and pretty g**d**n awesome.

The Champions have a new blank, the Extremes have different cork and appearance.

The extremes have a new blank, guides, and cork. Essentially a new rod lol.

^ switch those around and then youre getting there

I stand corrected ,Dobyns is phasing out their rods with Kigan guides. Essentially the champion XP is a champion with fuji guides. While the HP is a new rod all together.

I passed on the dobyns. Anyone have experience with the 795 and 806 of the max 3D rods?

I want to be able to flip 3/4 up to 2oz. I know the 806 is rated for that but would the 795 be better?

Thanks

I'm reviewingredients old threads. I'm looking at the 2016 DX 795FLIP. I want a LIGHT rod and not too stiff. Description says med heavy which should be perfect but i thought the 5 means heavy power.. Need to be able use 1/4oz to 1 1/4 baits. I have it narrowed down to doybns or an over priced loomis glx/nrx. Any input is appreciated.

The DX 795flip is rated 1/4-1 1/4oz. I'd trust Dobyn's on this. In regards to the power rating, they have lowered their flipping rods power wise, I've never used a DX flip series, but my DX745c is a "mag heavy" it just feels like a regular heavy to me.

How do you like your DX 745? Is it the newer DX series with the AAA cork? I guessing your 745 is the same blank just 5 inches shorter? How's the weight? 795 is a long rod for me. I'm short but the Again 5 inches may be a pain. What's your thoughts?

It's the older one, i've had it for 2-3 years now. It's light. I don't know the weight exactly, but it's a lot lighter than the fury or the veritas rod in my arsenal. 7'4" is just about right for me, I'm about 6'1". I'm as comfortable with my 6'8" champion as I am with my 8' champion.

Thank you for your experience. I have a 734 and 735 champ. I love the 734. Actually pitch 1/4 with it now. I'd like the DX 795 to take its place and also do punching with 1 1/4 Oz. Curious what reels do you pair with your Dobyns?

I was intending to buy a Lew's magnesium but I lost my job so it's a bit bare now. But previously I had a lew's SuperDuty 8:1 on it.
