Ridi620 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Ive read about this new Gliss line that's being used out of the country. They're saying its as tough as braid but as translucent as fluoro carbon or mono. Thoughts, suggestions, anything? Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Tough as braid but as translucent as fluorocarbon or mono? I don't know who "they" are but that is not my personal experience. I used 24# Gliss on a spinning rod for about 3 months and stopped using it because it started fraying just by running through the rod guides. In this way it reminded me of Nanofil. A week ago I went back to Sufix 832, Gliss experiment over... If you search BR for "Gliss line" you will find a bunch of threads with other member's reviews and feedback. 1 Quote

Yup: Just type "Gliss" in the search box and you'll get a bevy of results: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/search/?type=all&q=gliss 1 Quote
Ridi620 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 So @Steveo-1969 doesn't like it but the thread above seems like its good. hmmm. might have to check it out myself. 4 minutes ago, Steveo-1969 said: Tough as braid but as translucent as fluorocarbon or mono? "they" as in the company that makes it. thus why I wanted to ask people who may have used it.... 1 Quote

Yup. After trying it I decided it wasn't for me, but I would definitely suggest trying it yourself. When I first spooled it on I was amazed at the casting distance! It's not technically braid but is no-stretch and felt like I was using braid. After a couple months the coating started to wear off and the line was fraying, and my casting distance was not as great as it was when the line was new. But YMMV... Quote
PennBass Posted March 3, 2016 Posted March 3, 2016 I tried it out on my spinning setup. You sure do get a lot more distance (5-10 yards?) out of your cast, but if there's anything that can rub against your line, you'll snap off. If you accidently hang your lure in a tree, consider it gone because it'll break if you look at it the wrong way Quote
Ridi620 Posted March 3, 2016 Author Posted March 3, 2016 @Steveo-1969 @PennBass ah dang that's too bad. I was hoping they finally figured something out. Thanks for the input! Quote
Super User Master Bait'r Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 Honestly, the rig I'm using Gliss on used to have nanofil on it, so the negatives are still fewer than Nano IMO. I've only had it out a few times, but it does everything I liked about nanofil, and has negated a lot of the things I didn't like about it as well. The fraying... Well, let's just say I'm willing to deal. @ $20 a spool, it isn't super expensive line and it does what I want enough to be "worth it" for me. No line will outcast it though, that's for sure. Never seen anything like it for super light baits, even nanofil can't come close. 1 Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 3, 2016 Super User Posted March 3, 2016 I am in the process of trying the #8 lb. Gliss for an ultralite spinning outfit I use for pan fish . For all my other spinning needs I would use a brand name braid . The deal with Gliss is all the strands run one way( like dental floss) so once it starts to fray that section of line is pretty much done and needs to be replaced . Quote
