Fishin' Fool Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 I'd like to learn to fish jigs this year but I'd like to start with small jigs on spinning tackle. Any suggestions on good smaller profile jig maybe say 1/8 ounce to 1/4 ounce that I could tip with a beaver bait or something like that? Thanks. Quote

WI_Angler1989 Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Strike King Bitsy Bug x 2 They don't last a very long time but they're great for beginning. They work really well and have a good profile plus they're very inexpensive. If you prefer to get higher quality right off the bat, Siebert Outdoors makes a finesse jig called the Sniper jig that is great and we'll reccomended. So they are both lead headed hooks one just has a skirt and the other has a piece of plastic over them. I didn't know the guy already fishes tubes a lot already. I fish Lk St Clair so drifting and dragging tube jigs is a very effective manner of catching fish. If the other jigs fish similar to tube jigs I should pick it up pretty fast. Just have never done it before. Quote

Yep, I love using berkley chigger craws or even strike king rage tails on them. Obviously the smaller versions of both baits, but both work well and are great for downsizing when the bite is tough. For finesse botom dragging - it's hard to beat a Bass Patrol 1/4oz. football jig (inexpensive) with a baby Paca Chunk Craw . I usually use a SK Baby Rage Craw as a trailer (and bite off the first 2 segments). With that said I'm going to order some Sniper and Finesse jigs from Seibert this year. They are only about $.30 more and I will get a better hook, more color selections and better overall quality. 1 Quote

If are asking about a jig with a weed gruard the following should work with 8 lb FC or mono/ copolymer line. Siebert Sniper jig looks good, I use Don Iovino Star Burst and Skinny Bear finesse jigs and they are good. Don't limit your spinning tackle to weed guard style jigs when darter, round, mushroom and football plain heads in 3/32 to 3/16 oz sizes without a skirt work good with soft plastic worms and creature/craws.
