Scarborough817 Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Just ranting you dont really have to pay attention to this. Anger issues seem to have been the main focus of my day today. Little background on this I play counter strike fairly regularly and I have a very competitive nature. today I missed a very simple shot to win the game and of course I was mad so instead of collecting myself and winning the next round I got mad and let the rage take over. I then threw my headset at my monitor and now I'm shopping for a new one. Just kind of annoyed that I let myself get this upset at something and to physically break something in response seems so stupid. I'm filled with regret as I write this but I know it's a lesson learned and I will never do it again. Rant over Just wondering how do you guys keep your selves in check with stuff like this Quote
Super User tomustang Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 At least you didn't take your frustration out on some one else Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 11, 2016 Global Moderator Posted January 11, 2016 I can't let my emotions get the best of me, I'll be out of a job (and probably on the news), in a hurry. If I do feel myself starting to get worked up, taking a step back and taking a couple deep breaths to clear my head usually gets me back where I need to be. 2 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 I stopped playing counter strike because the community is so toxic, there aren't a lot of people who play the game causally and if you don't know what your doing people just constantly talk crap and try to make you feel bad... Super User WIGuide Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 Is gaming the only time you get yourself that enraged? Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 I'm not going to say that you have to stop gaming, but either learn to channel your anger as motivation to to better. If you can't do that then maybe remove yourself from the situation until you settle down. Like after you missed the shot, take a 10-15 minute break and then come back to it. Quote
Scarborough817 Posted January 11, 2016 Author Posted January 11, 2016 i have a couple things i'm going to try i have a stress ball that i keep beside me when i play now Quote

I play golf so I know what you mean. I think about it this way, it's only a stupid game, there are other things a lot more important. Quote

Super User fishinfiend Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 lol Just wait until you become an adult and you have important things to worry about and get angry over. 1 Quote
Evan K Posted January 11, 2016 Posted January 11, 2016 Immediately stop what you're doing when you get angry, and do something else. If you're golfing, stop and goof on your phone, read the news, play a game, whatever. If you're fishing, stop and put tackle away or take a walk. Gaming, go check your email or something. Just do something totally different to take your focus off what made you mad, and give yourself a moment to calm down. Also remember that these things that get you so angry are recreational/entertainment. You're doing them for FUN. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 I used to have some major anger issues actually still do I just handle them differently idk if any better but definitely different. I used to be like you controllers smashed and thrown or my phone even. Can't tell ya the number of holes I've had to fix in the walls or even a tail light once. Now I tend to tell if it's me getting worked up in an argument or dealing with stupid people I've made some grown men cry with me yelling and saying crap to them. So that's not necessarily better way but it takes A LOT to get me to that point I can put up with a lot of crap before blowing my top. I tend to just do as others said though if I feel my blood starting to boil. I go fishing or hunting, walk away do something anything to take my mind of the situation. Once calmed down I come back. Took a while for my gf to get used to of in the middle of an argument me just putting shoes on and heading out the door and ignoring calls and texts till I'm cooled off. Same with gaming or other stuff I just pick up and walk away and do something else usually alone. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted January 11, 2016 Super User Posted January 11, 2016 Advice is worth what you pay for it. If you don't have an emotional or fiscal stake in the advice, it won't work no matter how good or accurate it is. Now, my advice - if the only thing that happens is that you break a game controller - so what? You can buy another game controller. That is a first world problem that can be solved by throwing money at it. If you think that this is a deeper problem that has the potential to affect your life in various ways - there isn't any substitute for professional help. Or it is the new year - you could make a resolution to not do that anymore. Let us know how that works out. Me - I've had mixed results with resolutions. I haven't smoked since spring of 2009. A resolution to not buy toys I want? - that lasts maybe 20 minutes. Quote
