Flex coat 5 minute epoxy for weedguards 2 part mix drys clear and when tying with coats & clark upholstery thread use 3 half hitch knots and for more flare in the skirting material take your lead shears and cut a groove in the neck of the jig before tying on the skirting material by wrapping the thread a couple of time they using 3 half hitch knots pulling down after each half hitch it will make the skirting material flare out like the one in the picture next to my name. .

How big of a groove are you talking?  All the way down to the hook?  Do you have a pic of a head after the groove is cut but before the skirt is added?

I really like how the jig in your sig pic turned out, nice job.

Tying, I used wire with two wraps then twist until I get the right amount of flare, but be careful to many twists will weaken the wire and it will break.

The skirt really flares out like deer hair would in fly tying. I bet it looks real enticing in the water, how's your luck on them?

Nice idea.

I've been working on a hybrid jig. I leave the skirt long to give give a tube appearance and tie on chenille to the body over a piece of closed cell foam to get the body of a grub. Kind of a hula grub tube. When I tie the bottom of the shirt to the foam (just before the hook bend) it flares out as well. Not to the magnitude that you have there, yet it's been very effective so far.

Keep up the good work.

[edit] Opps, forgot to give my 2 cents. I tie my skirts with Size D rodbuilders thread, whip finish and coated twice with clear nail polish. I glue the weedgurad with guide foot adhesive (hot glue melt).

I know the nail polish sounds weird, but spinnerbaits will last me a season with the same skirt.  ;)
