Spinnerbait Blades?

I'm going to make up some spinnerbaits. I've got some 3/4 oz heads, skirt material of the colors I want, and all of the hardware ordered except I haven't decided on the blades.

I fish mostly stained water, shad based forage. I'd like to be able to pitch em up in shallow cover or slow roll deep.

What's everybody's thoughts on Willow Vs Indiana? Smooth, hammered, or fluted? Nickel or Gold? Single or Tandem? Blade size?

Ah, the options are endless...lol

In conditions where I'm looking for a solid vibration & flash without extra forward speed, I'm a big fan of the Mag willow blade.

 

As for finish, I prefer smooth and haven't really used the hammered jobs much.

Thanks, I like those, they don't look like most other willows I've seen. What size and color would you throw on a 3/4 head?

Try hatchet blades for something a little different.

Size 4, 5 or 6 depending on how I was using the baits.

 

On the smaller side for deeper or faster applications / presentations and a little bigger for the shallower / faster stuff. 

 

I like silver for sunny and clearer water and gold for cloud & / or dirtier water.

A-Jay hit it on the head. The mag-willow blades should do well. I've pretty much fallen in love with Oklahoma blades (exclusive to Terminator). They are basically a mag willow with an extra crease in them to provide a little more flash.

This is as close as I can find to the Oklahoma blades featured on the Terminator baits.

Haha I hear ya! They need to stay popular enough to keep Terminator offering them though. Right now they're limited to only a few models where they were once available on all their spinnerbaits.

Coming from someone who fishes a lot of muddy/cloudy water here in the Midwest, I prefer Gold Fluted or Ribbed Willow blades.  I feel they have many straight ridges which will provide a flash from any angle the fish sees it. 

 

Haven't tried the Mag willows but these guys sound pretty excited about it.

I like tandem Colorado blades....deep cup, hammered copper (getting hard to find), usually 6 and a 3 or 4.

Everyone has their favorite blade configuration and colors and I'm sure you'll make a great selection based on the advise you just got, now make one like this and let me know how you do:

 

The big blade you usually install on the back swivel, install it in front on a clevis. Now install the small blade on the swivel instead of the clevis.

You just blew my mind.  Does the big blade not get caught on the skirt or head?  seems like it would be too close to the body to work.

I'm going to have to try this.  Is that a Sampo swivel on there?  I replace every swivel on every lure with one of those.  Fantastic product.

I got some help from my nine y/o son and we made up about a dozen. Here is the finished product. I went with a fluted nickel willow and a hammered gold Indiana. I plan on making some more with the other tips given this Winter. I lose a lot of spinnerbaits slow rolling.

Thanks...Lumaflex skirts....3 parts white, 1 aqua, 1 chartreuse. Now I gotta get out and see if they'll catch anything...lol

My Mann's classic spinnerbaits use the Indiana blades.

I tinkered with a Mann's spinnerbait single 3/16oz single blade by going up one size larger blade. More pump for the thump. The first day of trial I caught a few bass. I was proud I got its down I was catching bass thanks to Glenn's support to keep on trying it. Ok of course my last cast a large 30" pickerel came parallel to the droppoff actually up out of the water on the rocks as I lifted the spinnerbait out of the water it ripped it off my line. I froze I couldn't believe my eyes. My point is when thinking about the blade size go one size larger. The more thump the better.

Don't forget I'm fishing from shore. My success so far are the 1/8oz to 1/4oz spinnerbaits. The speed is the key reel it just fast enough so the blades spin. Don't go too fast.

Now try it above the sight line near the surface. Then try is slower below the sight line where we can't see it. Below the sight line the spinnerbait is in there face.
