Cmiller Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I am looking at purchasing a bass boat for next season. I have specifically been looking for a bullet 17v, but I found a nitro 170dc locally that is in like new condition for a really good price. I was wondering if anyone on here has fished out of one or owned one? I know its not going to have the build quality of a hand built boat, but for the price I think I could look past that. It is powered by a mercury 125, and has a motorguide 81lb thrust trolling motor. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted November 4, 2015 Super User Posted November 4, 2015 That is the 17' rick clunn edition right? If so, it's a good boat with a few flaws. You can't store a rod longer that 7' in the lockers. I hated having dual consoles. I also built the deck to fill in the hole between the 2 consoles. Other than that, it had ample storage, had a pretty good ride and handled rough water surprisingly well. When you say a good price, what price is that? Quote

The rod box situation is a bummer, but the bullets I was looking at didn't even really have a rod locker. The nitro is priced at 4500 with two stainless props, cover and freshly serviced trailer. Its so clean I could eat out of the bilge. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted November 4, 2015 Super User Posted November 4, 2015 Buy it. Those boats go for that around here in average condition with a 90hp and 12 volt junk trolling motor. Quote

Ya, that sounds like a good deal. I have a '96 16' Rick Clunn single console and love the boat. I keep it clean and in good condition. It gets me to every place a $65,000 Ranger would; not as fast but it gets there and fishes just fine. I would do a compression test on it first though. Quote
Cmiller Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 I planned on doing a compression and leakdown test on it. I was also shocked at the insurance quote, 1/4 of what the same coverage on a bullet would have been. Quote
