BeardedBassGuy Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 For anyone who watched the episode of "Playing possum" did anyone notice what kind of hook he was using? looked like offset round bend to me, just curious because seems like most people use a EWG. Possibly offset round bends will work just as good maybe better for stick o worms. anyone's opinion will be appreciated, Thanks, Joe Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted August 18, 2015 Super User Posted August 18, 2015 Well, he's Bill Dance so I wouldn't ever say he's wrong. But for me, anything T-rigged, that is thicker than the standard 6" worm is getting an EWG Gamakatsu. It's academic to me because I can't seem to buy a bite on them rigged this way. Quote
nascar2428 Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 I use owner twistlocks for Senko's and all of the knockoffs. 2 Quote
lectricbassman Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Been using an offset round bend all year on my stick baits and havent had a problem. Ewg is a lot of hook imo for weightless stick baits. Hookup rate is also not a problem with the roundbend for me 3 Quote
Harry IV Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 it doesnt really matter however a superline ewg will help if you rig it weightless Quote
Ginosocalbass Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 bill dance fishes out of private ponds for half his videos... I wouldnt focus to much on what hes doing 1 Quote
Cgrinder Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Round bend hooks are good with senko-style worms. No need to use a wide gap on a 5" senko. However, I like skip gap hooks best. 2 Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted August 19, 2015 Super User Posted August 19, 2015 Owner J hook in size 4/0 Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted August 19, 2015 Super User Posted August 19, 2015 I use owner twistlocks for Senko's and all of the knockoffs. I started using them on flukes and they worked so well I decided to try them on the bait they were designed for and just like the fluke, perfect!!!! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted August 19, 2015 Global Moderator Posted August 19, 2015 bill dance fishes out of private ponds for half all his videos... I wouldnt focus to much on what hes doing Fixed it for you I'm sure Bill is a great guy, but I can't stand to watch anything other than his bloopers. Obviously he was a great tournament fisherman in his prime, I just don't get anything out of watching a guy fish his private ponds week after week. 3 Quote
bkohlman Posted August 19, 2015 Posted August 19, 2015 Tiwst locks and roundbends for me when I texas rig stick bait. Quote
BeardedBassGuy Posted August 19, 2015 Author Posted August 19, 2015 When I first started fishing yum dingers I would use straight shank tru turn. Then switched to ewg but just recently started using offset round bend. But I'm not even sure the reason to use ewg anyway? Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 19, 2015 Super User Posted August 19, 2015 bill dance fishes out of private ponds for half his videos... I wouldnt focus to much on what hes doing I think it's way more than 1/2. Only times he's not on his pond is catfishing and Saltwater. I think he uses the Skipgap hook. Or at least days he does. I use VMC 3/0 EWG. Sure wish I had access to a pond like his. 1 Quote
tennsopher Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 I've met Bill Dance a couple of times. He is just as personable as he is on his show. What I don't understand is how many of you guys are quick to point out the private lakes he fishes. The man is one of the greatest anglers to have ever held a fishing rod. Many years ago he used to do his shows on public waters. With the advent of his fame,he had to forego tournament angling to devote time to his show. What about the shows that are done on northern lakes with no boat traffic?Pay attention to the techniques and not the product hawking. You might just learn something. 1 Quote

PREACH!! The OPs original question was "What hook was Bill Dance using?" Amazing how quickly that spiraled into "Bill Dance is a cheater!" And the OP never did get his question answered... 1 Quote
