I been collecting tackle when it's free or dirt cheap. Sometimes it's off the beaten path from the real valuable fishing stuff but it's older or even the early plastics.

Now my point is I have a chance to pick up some early Bill dance quantum stuff. Is it worth grabbing now while he's still alive?

Maybe if its a signed abu garcia round reel.but all joke aside bill is a great man but most of his stuff is geared at the causal first time fisherman or woman.

Unless it were personally signed by Mr Bill Dance himself ( like that cap I got here in one of my drawers ) I wouldn´t pick anything.

If you're collecting items because you have some personal attachment to them and something like the Bill Dance Quantum items does, go for it. If you're collecting with the idea that it may increase in value, I have boxes of baseball cards I will sell you.
