Super User Catch and Grease Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 I've always liked the story of Aron Ralston and how he survived the situation he got put in... As much as I liked his book and his story I never watched the movie 127 hours where James Franco portrays Aron raslton. I just finished it and it's great, really puts you in the shoes of Ralston and makes you realize how hard it was for him. Some people say they could do what he did no problem and some say they'd not be able to muster up the courage to do it. Could you? Do you think you could cut your own arm off with a dull pocket knife to save your life? Its hard to say because I'm sure the mind thinks different after being stuck in a canyon for 5 days but I honestly don't know if I could... If you haven't seen the movie go find it and watch it because its great, and if you don't know who Aron Ralston is or what he went through you need to look it up ASAP. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Saw the movie. Nobody ever really knows how they would react to such a situation until they are in it. Anything else is just pure speculation. Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Saw the movie. Nobody ever really knows how they would react to such a situation until they are in it. Anything else is just pure speculation. Bingo. Things like adrenaline spikes, fear, desperation, etc can remove years of training. In teaching self defense/BJJ, I've seen it a ton of times where even "prepared" people get shocked by the reality and speed (or lack there of) of a crazy situation. Quote
Super User Lund Explorer Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Reminds me of the story about Coyote Ugly. So if you wake up in the morning and there's this ugly gal asleep on your arm, do you wake her up or start chewing? 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 5, 2015 Super User Posted August 5, 2015 Catch, let me get this straight: You read books? Non-fishing books? High level books? And you are a bass fisherman??????? Well, good for you! Love it when I read or hear about a young person who loves bass fishing doing something other than bass fishing and reading books expands your overall horizon. You are in the upper 1% of great people who are bass fishermen and I am proud of you for reading Aron's story. I remember when this event occurred and thought he was one heck of a guy to do what he did to survive. There is a new book out, Gratitude Diaries, that I may read later this summer: http://www.gratitudediaries.com/. Any other books you recommend? Quote

Lol I'm not reading a book everyday but I do like to pick one up from time to time... Have you read the crucible? Its about the Salem witch trails and was a good one but its more of a play. One flew over the cuckoo's nest is a really good one, I'm sure you've heard of the movie (which is really good) but the book is also really good. Quote
