If a boat doesn't have an electric trim but has a peg you pull out to adjust the trim manually how should I have it set? Right now I have it set almost parrell to my boat, I figured this would give it the most power... Should I have it set differenet? I know people with electric trims change it while they are driving but what's a good compromise spot for one that's not adjustable while your behind the wheel?

Mines level, but it depends on your boat and what your trying to do. People here trim way up to stay on plane in extremely shallow water where my friend in an under powered carolina skiff has to trim down just to get on plane with two people.

When I had my 16' sea nymph with 20hp, I had the trim set at one notch up from level. When we would move from spot to spot, I had the passenger sit in the back with me til it got planed out, then move to the front to drop the bow a bit.

Start raising it one step at the time until you get your best speed and ride at WOT with your normal load. Get it too high and it will either porous or make the prop cavitate. Once you have it set and if it's too hard to get on plane because of the bow lift, you will have to give up a little on the WOT speed and drop it back down a notch to help the holeshot.

Way2slow nailed it. (surprise surprise). We had a 18' starcraft fish/ski with a 85hp merc growing up. Ideal location was one hold under level. That was the best location to hit both hole-shot and top end speed. Crazy how much the 3/4" adjustments can mess with either of them.
