I've got a MBR842C GLX that I love to use.  When I first got it, I used is for soft plastics like senkos and craws.  But I've gravitated lately toward the St Croix MXF and MHXF for those applications.  I have considered going back to it for the senkos and craws and getting rid of the MXF and MHXF rods, because the 842 is too nice of a rod NOT to fish.  But I thought I would ask if anyone uses this rod for other things or has other ideas for it first.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

Lighter jigs and T -Rigs is what I used mine for when I had it. Bronzefly over at TT says that he uses his for 1/2oz Silver Buddies. It really is a great rod a darn shame that they quit making it. Used ones in excellent condition go for a premium on eBay and it seems that nowadays most people are hanging on to theirs (except me) and there is not an exact replacement from Loomis should yours break so be careful with it.

Mine is always in the boat - fished it today in fact. I primarily use it for t-rigs, but the beauty of this rod is that you can use it for practically anything in it's weight range and get good performance. T-rigs, light jigs, flukes, ligher paddle-tail swimbaits, lighter spinnerbaits and other single-hook baits. You can even crank with it in a pinch.  If any of my other BC rods/reels go down while in the boat, this rod can sub for them on the lighter end of the weight spectrum.

You're not going to pull hawgs out of the slop with this rod, but in open water it will handle some nice-size fish... ;)

Mine is matched with a Core 50Mg and #15 Tatsu. This is my dedicated small swimbait gear and

might be my favorite rig!

I have the IMX Version and it was my very first Loomis. I had a Calcutta 200GTB on it. Both were a gift from my students.

I love that rod and have used it for literally everything ( I don't use swibaits or Alabama Rigs)

I then put a Curado E5 on it and it seems a perfect setup.

Somehow the action and feel of the rod feels magic to me.

Perhaps I will look for the GLX version and get it too.

I didn't think that Loomis ever made the MBR842 in the IMX version and the MBR842GLX is no longer in production. Do you have a pic if your rod?

John you are right!! This old 72 year old got his numbers mixed up.

Went to look at rod and it is a MBR 782C. 6'6" Medium Fast Action. 1/4-5/8 oz lures.

I stand corrected ----or recline in my Recliner, corrected

Thanks for catching that one.
