o.k.  i`m a simple man - meaning  i take the canoe out  and  paddle to my spot and with a simple rod and reel i go and have FUN - basically what kind of line and what test  - please explain it simple  there is  soooo much  to fishing man it`s UNBELIEVEABLE  - i fish for  SMB  -   THANKS

That would depend on what you're throwing, at least for LMB. Smallies may be different though, but fishing isn't.  :trans5:

Maybe you could give us a little more info?  Are you fishing with a spincast, spinning or baitcast rod?  What kinds of baits are you using?  How heavy are your weights (if any)?

as long as you arent fishing in heavy cover or for muskies, you can get by with 8lb Trilene XL for spinning gear and 12lb Trilene XT for baitcasters

Most of my smallmouth fishing ranges from 6-8# line on spinning gear to 12# on casting. Mono will give the most versatility.
