Super User fishballer06 Posted June 18, 2015 Super User Posted June 18, 2015 I saw the new Citica I listed on TW today and I started looking it over (considering selling my Tatula R and getting another Shimano). It didn't take me long to notice that this reel appears to be the exact same as the Curado I. Am I missing something here? Why should I spend the extra cash on a Curado? Both have: Xship 5 bearings + 1 ARB Same Spool Capacity Same Weight Same Gear Ratio's SVS braking Same shape? Side note: I do already own two Curado I's. Just trying to justify why I should spend the extra $30 if not needed. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 18, 2015 Super User Posted June 18, 2015 Why don't you buy the Citica I and report back your comparison findings... oe 1 Quote
robster80 Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 the curado i can be found for 129. so question is should u spend the extra 20 on a citica ive read theres a couple minor diferences i think with the spool Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted June 18, 2015 Author Super User Posted June 18, 2015 The spools look the same and both have the same capacity ratings. Quote
k3bass Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 There's another thread on here about this. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/158599-shimano-citica-i/ I wondered the same thing. The only real difference I see so far is the curado lists 3 S-arb bearings and 2 stainless steel bearings. The citica lists 5 stainless steel bearings. Quote
John G Posted June 18, 2015 Posted June 18, 2015 If they are the same performance wise then it I guess it all comes down to color. Quote

I don't think it's been confirmed yet but if I had to guess the differences between the two it would be the spool material/weight and lesser quality bearings are found in the new Citica. 1 Quote
robster80 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 just throwing this out there. if youre left handed they have some on e bay for like 117 +9 bucks shipping Quote

SenkoGuru Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 The curado I is $119.00 to $135.00 on Fleabay right now Quote

Dan_the_fisher Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I've saw curados for 130 on tw this year as well Quote
masterbass Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 The curado has better bearings and a double anodized spool. Other than that it's pretty much the same reel. Quote
Super User OkobojiEagle Posted June 19, 2015 Super User Posted June 19, 2015 So... put in a set of hybrid ceramic bearings and it becomes better than a Curado? oe Quote
Super User lmbfisherman Posted June 19, 2015 Super User Posted June 19, 2015 So... put in a set of hybrid ceramic bearings and it becomes better than a Curado? oe Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the previous Citica pretty easy to do the same thing anyways? Quote
dam0007 Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I started the first thread on this. Curado was price dropped to $129 by Shimano then when they announced the Citica they raised the price back to $179 and put the Citica for $149. So... Anyone buying either for more than $129 is getting ripped off. Quote

I've posted this numerous times now in the other threads like this. A double anodized spool just means it has two different colors on it. It is in no way superior to the citica spool, just a way to add a color. Quote

So where are the better bearings located on the curado? Curado lists 3 s-arb bearings and 2 stainless steel bearings. The citica lists 5 stainless steel bearings. Quote

The MAP holiday was to move through inventory.... With ICAST coming up, I'm sure a lot of these companies are just looking to move through inventory with the new arrivals on the way. Just because they CAN and have sold the Curado for $129, doesn't mean that that type of pricing is sustainable or profitable. I think that even at $179, the Curado is a great reel... Quote
John G Posted June 19, 2015 Posted June 19, 2015 I think that I will backtrack on my not really having a problem with Shimano's decision making nowadays. That said, I am very happy with my Curado 200HG and I would not have a problem buying a Citica if I could find it cheaper than a Curado I. Quote

I didn't pay more for anything I own neither. However I own about 30 Shimano reels and the only 1 I ever paid retail for was a Sustain 6000FG and bought it for retail using Cabelas Club points. So I basically got it for free. Chronarch Es never paid more than $150. Curado Gs never more than $90. Citica Gs never more than $75... Anyhow when this debate started I ended up with Scorpions for less than both the Citica and Curado. Quote

I agree, I haven't paid retail for something in quite awhile. Doing a little work to save a bit of money all adds up Quote
