Your Average 5 Fish Bag

Oh and I'd like to add that in this small community pond where the avg fish is 1lb, I'd get a 5 fish limit in 30 minutes.  I use this pond to practice techniques.  It's fun to see everyone there get amazed when I pull up fish after fish and ask me what I'm using!  Drop shot and a jig is deadly there.  So 5lb bag is easy here, you can get the odd 3-4 lbers here but very rare.

On the days I actually catch 5 keepers my bag would probably be 8-12 lbs on average at the lake fish regularly.

On the St. Lawrence River it is not uncommon to catch 20lbs or over. I would say to get a top 10 you better have over 18lbs. To win, you would need over 20 on average. One morning I was out and within 30 minutes I had just over 20lbs of small mouth.

In the ponds I fished (we went through 5 years of severe drought) a limit was almost assured. I'd say on average it would weigh 12 lbs. Have had a few 15 lb days this year, but recently not so good.

Were I live it's hard to even get a limit with the bad drought conditions and only being able to shore fish.

On Erie a very average day would be 15 lbs post spawn.

If!! I catch 5 in a day probly be around 10 lbs. Good day would be 15.

If you fish bass tournaments a 15 lb, 5 bass limit will get you a check most of the time, 20 lbs wins, with a few exceptions.

Northern Cali being one of those exceptions 6 of the 8 events I fished this year took over 30lbs to win. 

 

 I weighed 20 and change this weekend for 4th though, go figured 30lbs won it yet again.

For me generally about 12-15# on ponds. I know one pond that is in a gated neighborhood that has a 3# average and a fish on almost every cast. I only get to go to this pond every once and a while though.

An average size bag of green bass for me is probably something near 10 lbs.

 

Interestingly enough an average Brown bass bag run about 12 lbs

 

An average mixed bag usually runs close to the one of those as well.

Last Saturday I got my biggest limit ever that wieghed 12-13 pounds. It did include my PB that whieghed 4 pounds. All of the fish were caught on Stik-Os.

I can usually come up with 10#. 13+ is a really solid day. I can count on one hand the times I've topped 18#, and I haven't managed 20# yet. OH public waters ain't exactly lunker factories.

Welcome to the forum.  I'll be on Cape tomorrow & Monday, with my Ranger.  I'm likely starting in Sandwich and working my way around.

Because I photograph and post many of my fish on the bump board, you all know my average is pretty good.* A good trip, and I have a fair number of these, would be a five-pounder, a four-pounder, and three three-poundish bass for an 18-pound or thereabouts bag. I also have many trips with only one four-pounder and a quartet of three-plus-pounders and high two-pounders for a 15 to 16-pound bag. I have trips too with no four-pounders and perhaps two or three three-pounders and the rest are mid-two-pounders for a 13-+ pound bag. So, in summary:

 

Some 18-pound bags

Some 15-16-pound bags

Some 13+-pound bags

 

So, the average is about 16 pounds per bag with rare mornings/evenings when my bag total tops 20 pounds and other rare mornings/evenings when I'm topping out at 10 pounds per bag.

 

*However, I do much less bump board posting than I once did because that step keeps the fish out of the water longer. A lip and grip photo is much faster.

Nah. We've seen your fish. Humility is a fine thing, but the bump board doesn't lie and your FAT bass barely fit on a bump board.
