lectricbassman Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 Its that time of year again, my holes are starting to get choked by weeds and algae. Ive had success with topwater frogs and texas rigged plastics but i want to know if theres more techniques i could be using. What are your favorite techniques and baits to use in these situations? Also what tips and tricks do you have that help in the slop? Quote
Super User Sam Posted June 12, 2015 Super User Posted June 12, 2015 Spinnerbaits over the slop. Drop Shot rig with bait over slop and weight in slop. Wake Baits. Toads buzzed across water. Buzzbaits. Frogs, as you mentioned above. Unweighted trick worm in pink or white moved across the water like a snake. 2 Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted June 12, 2015 Super User Posted June 12, 2015 Try a speed worm, for ex a zoom u-vibe, burned right on top with an emphasis over small pockets. That can be really fun!! 1 Quote

lectricbassman Posted June 12, 2015 Author Posted June 12, 2015 What do you do for getting deeper? Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted June 12, 2015 Posted June 12, 2015 I like all of the above. Tossing a jig loaded with rattles is rarely a bad idea, either. What kind of slop? Bottom growth/cabbage? Duckweed on top? Frogs and buzz baits drug across duckweed have caught me quite a few 5lbers here in PA. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted June 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 12, 2015 What do you do for getting deeper? If you want to get deeper then you'll have to go right through it... There is a thread about punching a few pages back that has some good tip's that you may want to read. Mike 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted June 13, 2015 Super User Posted June 13, 2015 I have caught a lot big bass from a pond so choked with slop that everybody avoided it . I'm talking that slimy green moss that sticks like glue and those teeny lily pad looking thing that I always called "duckweed". I take a flat Riverside Top Gun "discontinued" and a heavy flipping hook cast it out and nudge it over the top. I hit any openings and let it sink. The strikes were spectacular the battles were not. I would reel in a seven lb bass and a few pounds of uck through that stuff. The bass cant even put up a fight , it is so bogged down in snot . I'm just reeling in dead weight . Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted June 15, 2015 Super User Posted June 15, 2015 If the wind is blowing a little that can usually push the boat across the top without having to turn on the motor. I raise the motor up so that it does not catch weeds and they stay out of the prop. Quote
einscodek Posted June 15, 2015 Posted June 15, 2015 Unfortunately for slop you are really going to have to punch it depending on how thick it is the fish have a hard time even taking out the hollow frogs on top everything else thrown in there including anything but the most streamlined punch rig hauls back a bowl o seaweed Quote
