I posted a while back about how the bearing count on a few of my lews being wrong, these were baitcasters wich the bearing count on the reel and schematic was actually less then what they really had. I thought id pull out a spinning reel schematic from a lews and check...wow. 10 bearings??? Not seeing it, and i took the reel apart fully and theres not 10 by far... that being said i still love lews reels but dont get why that is the way it is???????

Just checked my abu promax2 and it claims 8 and has 5 actual bearings plus the IA bearing..shows nothing in the knobs on schematic so i pulled one off and theirs 2 bushings in each knob...am i the only one who thinks this is kinda wrong in a way???

The Shimano Scorpion XT1500 schematic is wrong in that it shows the handle having a bearing and a bushing in knob when in reality it only has one useless bearing in each knob.

I see nine from a quick glance at that schematic.

Your not seeing it correctly

Not a rant i just dont get how they say there are x amount of bearings and its not true and nobody seems to care...thats all☺

I never really judge a reel by the number of bearings it has anyway. If Lews can make their reels feel like butter with 10 or 5 or 0 bearings, it doesn't matter to me lol

Well if you count the number of bearings listed on that part sheet they total 9. Does the handle knob have a bearing? That would make 10 if it does. Which of the bearings shown on the schematics aren't actually on the reel?

Posted

Theres only seven actual bearings on the parts list and no theres not one in the knob so thats 8 if you count the IA. Bushings are not bearings..and like the above poster stated i dont really care about bearing count, if i like the reel idc if theres 2 or 20 bearings i just dont get how all these reels claim to have x amount in them when they dont....some have more than they claim also...

And really more bearings has nothing to do with casting performance, every reel ive seen in the last decade have three bearings that touch the spool shaft. Some guys think upgrading to abec 7 or higher bearings help the reel but you will never get the spool spinning fast enough to notice a difference over say abec 5's or ceramics casting wise IMO.. i beleive performance casting wise is in the reels braking system/systems....do more or better bearings make the reel smoother?? Maybe, but for me its all about putting my bait where i want it and not so much about how it feels reeling...ive got a few round rocket cl's i added cog wheel bearings and worm bearings and i cant tell much difference if any in smoothness reeling wise....

The quality of the bearings, bearing placement, quality of gears used, and other machined parts contribute to how smooth a reel feels. If you are talking about casting distance there alot more factors than bearings to consider.
