Bryce_Fishin24 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Hey everyone, I just have a quick question because my friend happened to bring the littlest dandiest fishing pole I've ever seen, it's an ugly stik micro rod or something, it was like 3-4 ft in length and it was so cool because he said he likes the fight. Maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing to find these type of poles? I know it's not ideal for bass fishing but we saw a couple bass swimming in this creek and instead of just pulling out his bass rod he literally just reached out of the water bottle pocket of his back pack and boom there he was fishing a roboworm. I know these poles aren't ideal maybe I haven't seen them enough? Anyone know where to find these little poles because I want it as my ultra light pole/ emergency pole of some sort where I can just fish real quick. If anyone knows a good combo ready to go but is still pretty durable please let me know, preferably that ugly stik? I forgot to ask the name of it. Have a great day! (: Quote
Brayberry Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 I have a Pen Rod, that shrinks down to the size of a sharpie I use on hikes and such. Camping i use a St Croix Medium/Light Backpacking Rod that breaks down into 5 sections that are only like 12" long, but together the rod is 5 and a half feet tall. BPS sell small ultralights that are like 4 feet tall too Quote
Bryce_Fishin24 Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 That sounds cool (: my friend just pulled out one the other day so I was like I gotta have that! Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted June 8, 2015 Super User Posted June 8, 2015 I've got a light action 6' el cheapo Eagle Claw rod with an Academy UL spinning reel spooled with 6# mono. I believe this rod cost me about $8 20+ years ago. It's a good creek rod or for places where you just know you won't catch any real big fish. But I fish one place I don't even take this combo. There are bruisers in there over 8#. These are tough on a 7' MH combo with braid. I took this one down the Wateree R last year and caught 2 decent bass and one striper on it before I hooked one that took me into some brush and broke off. I was heartbroken. This also makes a decent combo for big 'gills and crappie. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted June 10, 2015 Global Moderator Posted June 10, 2015 Zebco Dock Demon is a great combo for tight creeks, to carry in your truck for "emergencies", or for it's namesake dock fishing. I bought one for my 1 year old to play with (in my avatar), and was really surprised how nice it was, especially for $10. Rod is almost unbreakable (if a 1 year old can't do it, it probably can't be done), the reel cast well and the drag is surprisingly smooth (I cast a small dog toy for our 70lb golden retriever that test the drag really well). 2 Quote

That is a great pic. I have looked at you and your son fishing many times while reading your posts. I don't know if he is your only child but if he is, cherish every second of his childhood because it goes very fast. It seems like yesterday that my boy was 1 and he graduated high school last month and now he is off to the University of Florida in August. 1 Quote

Yeah, he still has a ways to go before he's doing too much fishing. The great thing about it today is with smart phones it's easy to capture moments in pictures or even video. He's our only one for now. Wife wants another, I'm not completely sold on it yet. He's a blast though, always has us laughing and seems to learn something new every day. Not long ago he learned a little about fine cuisine. I'm sure he'll eventually learn how ketchup is supposed to work, but for now it's hilarious watching him. 2 Quote
The Great Blue Heron Posted June 11, 2015 Posted June 11, 2015 I've always liked a 5'6" medium fast casting rod in two piece configuration for a packable travel rod. http://t.dickssportinggoods.com/product/index.jsp?productId=19487036 I have a Lew's Tournament Lite mounted on this rod that has done ok so far.
