Bass&PanMan Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Hi all, Shakey Head fishing is rather niche, tip sensitity helpful in order to improve feel and really be able to know what the jig is doing while you need a bit of backbone to set the hook, especially as most often, the hook is skin hooked. Let me know your recommendations and why. Thanks in advance for your help. Regards Matthew Quote
OntarioFishingGuy Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 A lot of guys will say NRX. I've never used one, but the best I've used is a St Croix 6'8 M/XF Legend Elite. I can only assume the Legend Xtreme is better. Quote
Bass&PanMan Posted June 7, 2015 Author Posted June 7, 2015 I was thinking the G Loomis 822S SYR because it mentions Shakey Head in the description or the St Croix Legend Xtreme. Both rods are Medium 6ft 10" with extra fast tip. Both list lure weights as low as 1/8oz which sadly nothing in the St Croix Avid range seems to handle. I already have 4 St Croix Avid rods and they are awesome but the M/L needs a little more back bone and then the M needs a bit more sensitivity despite being XF. I am inided to go with G Loomis because of the more traditional looks than the St Croix Legend Xtreme. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted June 8, 2015 Super User Posted June 8, 2015 For spinning it's tough to beat St. Croix's Legend Xtreme 70MLS. For casting I really like the NRX802. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted June 8, 2015 Super User Posted June 8, 2015 May also want to look at JDM rods or a custom build if money isn't a concern. Once you start talking about $300 rods I would say your options are going to be good and you should be able to find the exact rod you want. Quote
sarcazmo Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Money no object? Have a custom built. Get exactly what you want. 1 Quote

Bass&PanMan Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/157781-g-loomis-nrx-822s/i read the article with interest, there was a lot of love for the DSR and mixed reviews for the SYR. While some didn't like the SYR because it was too light, that is what I'm looking for, using a 1/8oz Tungsten Shakey Head rig. I really like my St Croix Avid M/L XF tip for drop shot using a 3/16 tungsten tear drop weight if not weedy while a skinny weight if weedy.A custom rod sounds appealing but I wouldn't know where to start. What would you even say ? Quote
dam0007 Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Custom rod from DVT!!!! He built mine and Roadwarriors. If I'm correct we have same blank and guides. MHX HM blank, I went with 7'1 MAG ML/F. Also had reel sent to him so he could balance it perfectly. Rod is killer and his work is perfect! Also make sure you pick up some zenith shaky head jigs from Siebert! Quote

Batson Posted June 8, 2015 Posted June 8, 2015 Go and get a custom!! Our RainShadow Eterinty2 ETES72ML has been coveted as being one of the best for this job! Quote
Bass&PanMan Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 The lure weight listed is 3/16oz which is similar to the St Croix Avid MXF that I already have. I'm looking for the best of the best 1/8oz Shakey Head rod to be fished with a 4.5" straight trail Roboworm. Quote
Bass&PanMan Posted June 8, 2015 Author Posted June 8, 2015 I am familiar with JDM golf equipment so Megabass looks interesting. Delaware Valley Tackle Posted June 9, 2015 Posted June 9, 2015 How is a plastic on a jig head specialized? I agree in the broadest sense, but the terms we use sometimes take on a more narrow meaning than the literal. When I say "shakey head", I'm talking about a finesse stand up jig head paired with a finesse worm, usually 4" with a pin tail. Of course there are endless variations just like there are with drop-shot etc. Quote
