I see the handle side plate is a little different it looks like. I wonder what the spool weighs... Ill bet its about a gram or 2 heavier to separate the performance for lighter lures like the previous gen curados and citicas

X2.  I hope Bantam or someone from Shimano reads these forums still.  It maybe a great reel but the marketing price point compared to the Curado leaves me dumbfounded.

I dont know why all the complaints still. Dont buy it if you can get the Curado I cheaper. What will probably happen is you will be able to get this cheaper anyway. I bet you can find this later for closer to the 100 price point. Sounds good to me.

I wonder if more people shop around for the best prices like we do or if there are still a lot of people that stroll into DSG etc and pay full price. My guess is the a lot of people are just going to but the Citica and not know any better.

Different spool, Citica doesn't have S-ARB bearings just ARB,and the handle is different.

The Citica has a single anodized spool while the Curado is double anodized, the handle on the Citica is made from cast aluminum and the Curados handle is machined.

So performance wise the two reels are identical? It seems silly to me for a company to make two different reels that are pretty much identical.

The E series of Curado and Citica were the same with the exception of a Bearing under the driveshaft, spool anodizing, and handle assembly.  MSRP was $179.99 and $119.99.  That was 6-7 years ago, adjust for exchange rates and it's about the same spread.  Shimano has been doing this for years and years and it seems to work out just fine.  My E Series reels all perform basically the same regardless of the name printed on them.

Yeah I Get what your saying. But the handles on the e series were noticeably different. The spool on the e series curado was also different not just the anodizing. They also had metal pins for the centrifugal weights vs. Plastic on the citica. A bearing replacing a bushing is also a more significant difference. Curado e also had an aluminum drag star vs plastic on the citica.

True that! That's why I upgraded my Citica E with a Curado handle and spool (Carbontex drags also) and now it fishes a lot closer to the Curado. There are still some differences (drag star, line guide insert, etc.) and $60 bucks worth for sure. The new series however, with minimal upgardes and $30 MSRP difference for the Curado truly has me (and others apparently) perplexed!
