Hey has anyone used the newer model of the kistler carbon steel? Looking at one for bottom contact baits, such as beavers and craws. And was wondering if anyone would recommend one. Also how do they compare to other $100 rods? Thanks in advance...

i don't think you be disappointed in the carbon steel , for the price there tough to beat , i have several kistlers from h3's , klx's and ordered a 7'3'' heavy carbon steel last season and it's been awesome i through frogs , t rigged plastics , jigs and even bigger crank baits and weightless senkos with great success on it.

My friend has one and he loves it! if you are rough on your equipment though I might look at a different rod. They have no protective coating and tiny guides.

Thanks guys, I have two older magnesium ts and really like them, so I was looking to maybe pick up a carbon steel or two rather than the new magnesiums soley based on price. It's just hard because I am unable to actually hold one in hand before purchasing ..

My buddies balances amazing with a lews lfs. just About an inch above the reel. It's ridiculously light too.

Kistler Rod's are a two edged sword. The rod's with the NFC blanks are simply fantastic and the others are very good rods too. Kistler makes good rods but then their is the other side of that sword and that part is that although Kistler rods are really good stuff, they pretty much have no warranty on the rods. Kistler has IMO the worst warranty ever, I know people who have bought $500 Z-bones and had them break three weeks later and Kistler would not warranty the rod but also banned them from ever using a warranty again, not only on that rod but any futures rods too. So just be aware that you are getting a really good rod but it pretty much has no warranty.

Thanks guys, I might have to give one a try. I mean I believe the carbon steel comes with a one year warentee. Plus I am a believer that if there is a defect in the rod it will break within the first year of owning it so if something would happen I would submit a warentee claim

I agree with you 100% that a real defect in the rod will show up very quickly and shouldn't take a year or more to show up. You would be getting a very good rod because Kistler does make nice stuff. It is simply the fact that even though the rod comes with the year warranty, there is a 75% chance Kistler will not honor it at all, I just wanted you to be aware of that and if you're ok with it then Kistler rods are a great choice. Good Luck and let us know how you like it.

i have never had an issue with kistlers warranty , i think all these horror stories of rods breaking , them not honoring a warranty etc come from years ago, i had to warranty one of my klx due to a freak issue and a new rod was on my doorstep less that a week later.

No it is recent, There is also a story on another fishing website site right now where Trey refused to honor a warranty because he said the man had two warranty claims already and he wouldn't do another on a brand new Z-Bone.. Kistler is simply unreliable on warranties some they will do but most they will not. Love the bass rod's, hate the warranty.

i'm not taking any sides here and this guy very likely could have a legit gripe,  but  3 zb broken on hook sets i  also would defiantly be questioning his " technique" of hook setting. not saying it didn't happen but something sounds a little off.

again i can only talk from my personal dealings with kistler and the way i was treated i would never hesitate to recommend one of their rods to anybody in the market. my h3's klx's and carbon all get tons of use w/ 100's of nice fish on them  including some monster pike and striper that were well beyond the weight these rods were built for and never a hiccup they are a pure joy to fish with.
