Super User the reel ess Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 I just started using Fireline this spring. It's pretty awesome stuff. I use 20# test and it has the diameter of 8# mono. I've been landing more fish with better confidence. How long do you use it between changes? A whole season? I fish about once a week for 3 hours when possible. I use it on 2 spinning combos. Steveo-1969 Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 I don't have experience with Fireline specifically, but love braid on my spinning reels as well. I would bet only fishing 3 hours a week you won't have to change the line until the braid starts to run low due to breakoffs and retying. Could be years and years. I use a fluoro leader and lose very little braid when I break off and re-tie, only a couple inches. I'm on my second year with same braid on a reel and it has over 500 hours of fishing on it. Other than losing color it still works great. 1 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted May 11, 2015 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2015 Thanks. Yeah, I was noticing it losing color. But I just had to break off the other day and it was very strong. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 Depends how much you use it and what your using it for, I've been using 30lb braid for flipping lately and cut off a lot of it to retie when it gets frayed. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted May 11, 2015 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2015 Braid can last years, I don't worry too much about it changing colors. When it get low, it's time. Mike Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 I fished PowerPro 3 years. Then I flipped it on the spool, exposing the new line and fished it 3 more years. Im gonna change it this year. 2 Quote

CRANKENSTIEN Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 Fireline/braid can last for years. Ive spooled it off and spooled it on the opposite direction just to get the newer looking end. Quote
ColdSVT Posted May 11, 2015 Posted May 11, 2015 When it gets low on the spool Ive had the same braid on my stradic fi since 2008... 20lb pp red...ok its more pink these days lol Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted May 11, 2015 Super User Posted May 11, 2015 I will agree with everyone else in that the only time to replace braid is when it gets too short. I haven't had it wear out yet. Quote
Hogsticker Posted May 12, 2015 Posted May 12, 2015 Forever. Fish it a season then reverse it and fish another. Fireline is a fused line. In my experience is doesn't have the shelf life of a quality braid, but it's still close. Quote
