I Am Visiting Sacramento Ca , Looking For Some Fishing Help.

I am going to Sacramento with my Wife for the kids graduation in mid June.(about the10th to 20th)   Our Largemouth New Hampshire State record is 10-8 , my personal is 6-7. Hope to catch bigger while i am in California.  How is the Bass fishing in the Sacramento area?   Would there be anywhere to rent a yak or canoe and do some bass fishing for a day ?   Would i be better off fishing for another species?  i am looking for ideas and help.  any and all info is appreciated.

If it were me id hire a guide for 1/2 or full day. For what you'd pay for a rental boat and not knowing anything about the area, a guide will put you on the fish immediately, all day long. Plus youll probably learn some new tactics.

There is one guide i know of, because I wanted to hire him to fish and learn the Delta, his name is Bobby Barrack. Look him up on line. He's not only a guide he's an instructor, teacher. He's pretty busy as most good guides are, so I'd contact him ASAP or when your other plans are solid.

Thank You,   i googled California Delta and gave me lots of info on the area.   I will contact Bobby Barrack. Thank You very much.  I hope to find a new personal best while i am out there where they grow big fish.   our state record is less than 1/2 the size of Californias.

You can rent kayaks all over the place. Proably wont enjoy it much if any amount of wind picks up. I agree with the getting a guide. Go out on the delta for the day. Catching monster bass in Cali is not as easy as some make it sound. Good luck.

The Delta, Clear lake, or the lakes in the Sierra foothills are all good choices...right in Sac you have the harbor that many guys fish from a yak.

Second either the Delta or Clear Lake...the bassmaster Elites are heading out of Sacramento next week but they will be heading South for the bigger bags. Randy Pringle and Cooch are a couple other guides for the Delta as well...mid-June is frogging time

Thank You ,  i am doing some online research with the info.   looks like i can get a full day fishing for under 400 $.   complete with a boat , guide , lesson , help etc.

Having never fish anywhere but here in NH hoping to break my P.B.  ....  A double digit would be awesome,  but i will happy with a new best.    Actually i will be happy just getting out for a full day, and having a good time.

Highly recommend Andy 'Cooch' Cuccia guide service in Oakley for both learning and catching experience.

Lakes like Fulsom and some of the foothill lakes are less than 50% full due to the drought, the Delta is your best choice followed by Claer Lake for a DD bass.

Cooch has a few vedio's, go online take a look.

If my goal was to catch a fish over 6 I would head to clearlake. The reason I say that is Clearlake has more 5+ fish than anywhere around here. For a giant I think Berryessa would be your best bet.  As for guides up here John Pearl, Matt Allen and PJ are all good.

I agree with all the above. . . I wouldn't rent a yak, I would go out with a guide on either Clear Lake or if you want to stay in the sacramento area hit the delta with a guide. Coach is a great guide, Bobby Barrack is equally as great. 

 

If your looking for stripers, I would recommend Barry Carnevaro (spelling might be off, on that last name). . . but any who he has a guide service called "Fish Hookers" this guy is loaded with knowledge of the delta (25+ years) and has a few magnificent vessels. 

 

If I were you, I would go to Clear Lake. . . with a guide you will be tired of catching fish (good problem to have). CL is loaded with 5+ LB bass, it's almost unreal. . . You will definitely maximize your chances of catching a DD, (which with a guide you will probably accomplish). Larry Hemphil guides on CL, there are several guides up there. . . Youtube (Paul Bailey, aka Paul "Big Bait" Bailey) I know he is going to start guiding up there. . . He catches quality fish 90% of the time. . .

If you're getting a guide on the delta BOBBY BARRACK is the only one to get.  If you're looking at Clear Lake, Matt Allen and John Pearl are good options.
