Super User .dsaavedra. Posted September 20, 2008 Super User Posted September 20, 2008 this is a step by step tutorial for how to make twisted wire loops for hinges, hook hangers, line ties, etc... sorry for a few blurry shots, my camera didnt want to focus for some reason... materials: 19 guage stainless steel wire wire cutters drill finish nail 3/32" drillbit (will vary depending on what guage wire you use) measuring instrument pliers vise measure and cut about 2.5" of wire: place nail in vise like so: be sure not to hurt yourself on the nail after you put it in the vise. bend both pieces of wire around the nail like this: crimp one piece of wire tight against the nail with a pair of pliers like so: slip the loosley bent piece in the tightly crimped piece like this: now crimp the second piece of wire: take the wire off the nail and chuck one piece in a drill so that just the tips of it are actually in the drill: now slip the loop that is connected to the drill over the nail and slowly twist the wire with the drill while pulling back (towards yourself) with a small amount of pressure, to make sure the wire stays straight when it twists, and doesnt start to get curved. dont pull too hard or you will cause some damage to the wire or your drill: slip this off the nail and repeat with the other piece of wire: you should now have something like this: trim off the uneven ends with your wire cutters: find a drill bit that will make a suitable size hole for your piece of twisted wire. 3/32" fits twisted 19 guage wire very nicely. drill holes in test wood to make sure the wire fits in the hole. when you find the right size, drill holes in your bait where you need wire loops/hinges: now mix some 2 ton epoxy with a tooth pick and let it drip off of the tooth pick and into the drilled holes. make sure to get an ample amount of epoxy into the hole. sorry, no pics for this step, i didnt feel like mixing up epoxy ;D stick your wire loops in the holes and set them just how you want and let the epoxy cure before moving the bait: hope i made everything clear for you. these wire loops make a great substitute for screw eyes. its a nice easy way to make hinges/line ties/hook hangers on your new bait. enjoy.
