BassinWill301 Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Awesome baits Dave, I really like the look of that baby bass, and the way the colors fade into each other on the shad. Quote
billbrum Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Those look awesome! I really like the shad colored one a lot. The bluegill photo finish is really nice too. Keep up the good work. Quote
wagn Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 wow that bluegill is awesome. what technique is that that gets such a detailed finish? did you actually paint that by hand? Quote

BIG M Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Your skills with the photo finish and painting are getting really good. That is you best batch of baits so far. Quote

FishZen Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 Man, you are really improving quickly! I've checked out some of your other stuff and the finishes are night and day. I'm curious about the photofinishing process. I assume you take a printing of the fish and then apply it to the bait. What is it printed on? How is the paper applied and what type of clear coat do you use? Thanks and keep crankin em out. Quote

Thanks and keep crankin em out. please tell me which of my previous lures look bad! ;D really, i dont think any of them look bad, but i do agree that these are my best. as for the photo finish, the picture is printed either on printer paper or tissue paper and then applied either to foil or foil tape and then applied to the bait. epoxy clear coat. after dinner tonight i am going to thin the epoxy with denatured alcohol so that it is thin and easy to brush and then put epoxy on these bad boys! Super User fishinfiend Posted August 8, 2008 Super User Posted August 8, 2008 They look great. The bluegill looks AWESOME!!! You should sell some. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 8, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2008 thanks for the compliments. either the baby bass or the bluegill always seem to be everyone's favorite the thinned epoxy worked great! the bluegill looks even awesomer with the epoxy clear coat as for selling them, i might sell a few. i dont want to get overwhelmed with having to make them for other people that it loses its fun. Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 9, 2008 WELL.... i got the lure finished. well at least i thought they were finished. i put 2 coats of thinned epoxy and got a satisfactory clear coat, but then when i put them in a bucket of water to see their rate of fall, they all floated! so now im not quite finished. i gotta go out and drill some more holes and pour some more lead and then cover up with paint and epoxy. THEN i'll be finished.... lesson learned.... test before finish. Quote
Super User David P Posted August 9, 2008 Super User Posted August 9, 2008 That blue gill one looks great bro. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 9, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 9, 2008 thanks! i now have them all weighted properly so they sink about a foot per second (maybe a little slower) and they sit on their hooks when they reach the bottom. all that is left is to fill in the weight holes with epoxy. then i'll be catching some fish on these! Quote
BIG M Posted August 9, 2008 Posted August 9, 2008 A little tip here. You need to figure out a way to put the same amount of weight in each bait. Instead of pouring melted lead into a hole, use an egg sinker or something similar that you can weigh. That way you can reproduce the bait time and time again without the opps I need more weight. BIG M Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 All three baits look really good. Now you've got me wanting try the sinking swim bait again. Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted August 10, 2008 Super User Posted August 10, 2008 They look real good Dave. Everyone is probably going to like the bluegill more but I think the baby bass is my favorite. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 10, 2008 Author Super User Posted August 10, 2008 thanks guys! Big M, give it a shot, if i can do it surely you can Jimzee, i like the baby bass too. i like the two that are hand painted a little bit more than the bluegill. although the bluegill is total sexyness. i guess i like them all equally. The_Natural Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 If you are going to keep making baits, you should get yourself an airbrush. Nice baits... Quote
CookieMonst3r Posted August 10, 2008 Posted August 10, 2008 Baby Bass >> Bluegill >> Shad But all 3 of them look nice. Quote
