ptomacbass Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 will gorilla glue work as replacement for epoxy when glueing in a balast weight? what about for glueing in hook hangers? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 i've never used gorilla glue before, so i have no clue how strong it is, but i will tell you that if you use 2 ton epoxy, the wood will break before the hook hangers pull out. i always use 2 ton epoxy to glue in my hangers and weights. what i suggest you do is take a scrap piece of wood and do a little strength test. on one part of the wood, insert weight and hangers with epoxy and on another part of the wood insert weight and hangers with gorilla glue. then do strength tests on them and whichever one holds up better is what you should use on your lure Quote
ptomacbass Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 i used gorilla glue for the balast weight because it will never really get pulled but i will buy 2 ton epoxy for the hook hangers. will small screw eyes work as hook hangers they are pretty thick though the arms are short (like half an inch). how much does epoxy ussually cost? is it really expensive? Super User .dsaavedra. Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 gorrilla glue should be fine for the ballast because like you said, it will never be pulled on. as for screw eyes, i dont use them. i use twisted wire loops, but i know that a lot, if not most people use screw eyes. since i dont use them, i dont know much about using them, but i do know that you want the threaded part of the screw to be pretty long and you also want to epoxy the screw eye in. as for epoxy, you can get it anywhere, walmart, lowe's, true value, local hardware store... it will cost you about 3-4 bucks for a tube, and a tube will last you for several baits. a "tube" is acutally a double-syringe (two tubes put together) with a plunger at the top that pushes the two parts out of the tube. Super User Hookemdown. Posted August 24, 2008 Super User Posted August 24, 2008 I use Devcon 5 minute epoxy for ballast, hangers, and lips. Gorilla Glue is VERY strong. It expands and flexes a lot. I know it holds my old tennis shoes together pretty well. ;D Quote
ptomacbass Posted August 24, 2008 Author Posted August 24, 2008 i hate buying shoes, even though my parents buy them for me they waste fishing money Quote
-ebby- Posted August 24, 2008 Posted August 24, 2008 i use screw eyes and they work fine if they are small enough i always screw them in then take them out and fill it will epoxy then screw back in, and at my local walmart its about 2 bucks for epoxy and it is in the area by paint Quote
