Occasionally there are some "must have" very specific colors.

An example is the Rapala DT6 Demon http://www.worldfishingnetwork.com/bassmaster-classic/post/rapala-lure-key-bassmaster-classic-win

However, I think YOUR favorite color pattern will generally work

just fine.

Right bait, right time, right color. Ive caught more fish on a penguin or smash colored dt than I have the demon. That being said if the fish are eating craws any craw colored bait is going to excel.

having grown up in NY and getting requests from friends to send them soft baits all the time, I can say that all we used 10 years ago was:

Black-black/blue tail-black-chart tail-Grape-pumpkinseed-Motor Oil-Smokes...

I now hear everyone asking for watermelons, watermelon seed, panfish colored swimbaits or something with chartruese in them, I always like a sexy shad up north since Smallies love chart, plus it can be a bluegill or shad depending on brand...Clear water, just go with your gut, I always do well when I match the water color with is usually a green pumpkin or smoke and then try a flake from both ends of spectrum...Red and purple or blue...GYB makes some awesome smoke colors which is why I still pay for GYB baits...Smoke with blue and gold often kills it as does that translucent black or natural shad they make...GYB put some science in the color or at least made a combo containing them all.

What matters is you buy them all, then figure it out. I never use pink, but I see more sherbert swirl worms selling at shops than I do watermelons in Florida lately..not sure why, but I have noticed it is hard to find in stock at times as well....still won't throw it, just can't believe in it, but metholianate I trust...

Im partial to crankbaits with some yellow because they have worked well for me . Not bright chartreuse .  Perch colored rapalas have been producing for decades for me . I use other colors of course but use something with some  yellow the most.

Soft plastics I have a lot of favorite colors .

  4. junebug

Rapala DT series

Helsinki Shad (Best producer for me)

Silver

DT Fat

Bleeding Olive Shiner (Best producer for me sadly no longer made in the Fat series)

Parrot

These colors have worked year round for me in the ponds I fish. The Storm Arashi rattle in Crappie color (all though more blue then the pictures on TW show) is becoming a good producer for me.

The following colors should do you.

Hard baits:

  • Sexy Shad (any shad color)
  • Chili Craw (bright red)
  • Chartreuse/Black Back

Soft Baits:

  • Green Pumpkin (Watermelon Red Flake works, too)
  • Junebug (black/blue)
  • Smokey shad (white/black)

You can't go wrong with the colors you mention. The only additions you may want to add would be a chrome or red lipless crank. It also never hurts to show them something different now and then. The choices are almost limitless.

I'm in NY to but rarely fish clear lakes. I fish s stained River and at this point keep it pretty simple. Black and white.

Green Pumkin and black/blue on bottom hoppers.  I keep some chartruese and orange dye close by tho.

For me natural colors like craw, greens, and browns seem to work best around weeds.  When I start getting out of cover and into more open water I will switch over to a blue/black bait.
