I can't link a pic but it looks identical to the revo stx. 6 centrifugal brakes and a set of magnets in the side plate. Nothing New or innovative but it works.

There have been many changes to centrifugal braking systems the last couple of years... boot shaped brake blocks, spring loaded pins, pitching brakes. I'm hoping these are the simple straight tube blocks that "click" on to slide freely or "click" off to keep them from sliding freely. Yes, I know the PQ is a dual centrifugal/magnetic braking system.

I'll upload pics of my BPS ProLite Special when I get home.. It's the BPS dual braking, so I'm assuming their the same.

I have a party and can send pics later. But I am pretty sure that all 6 are the standard click on/off and there aren't any pitching brakes or such

Well, this is a PQ spool that shows the centrifugal brake shoes/springs.  If you press the tab on the shoe all the way towards the center of the spool, it will lock in place and thus disengage that brake shoe.  If you release the brake shoe, the spring holds the active shoe away from the brake drum except when there is enough centrifugal force for it to extend and engage the drum.

This photo is from the PQ 5-Year Challenge thread(s)

...and here's the schematic of the braking system - also from the PQ 5-Year Challenge thread(s).

You nailed it. Just on/off and the mag dail. Nothing fancy to the Pq.

Nope - they're not free-floating brake shoes like Shimano, et al.,

This is my ProLite. The inner breaks... And the mag, numbers have been wiped off. Let me know if it's different... I'd like to know.

Thanks all for the pics.  I'm disappointed as I'm getting older and appreciate the simpler things in life...  I suppose this braking system has worked OK as the reel has been around for several years.  I'm looking for an easy casting left-hand retrieve reel with a 20" - 21" retrieve rate.  Anybody have any complaints with it sing out.  Thanks

I recommend you scan through the PQ 5-Year Challenge thread(s) and focus on the sections dealing with the centrifugal braking system.  This is the main weak spot for a PQ that will see LONG service. The brake shoes will wear, are not readily replaceable, and the brass brake drum can wear as well.  The wear can be slowed, but not eliminated, by keeping the brake drum clean and lightly lubed.

Otherwise, a solid reel. The 5.2:1 PQ gives 21 IPT, the 4.7:1 PQ gives 19 IPT.  I use a 4.7 on a deep cranking rod, and a 5.2 on a heavy spinnerbait rod.

I have never used dual breaks or really looked at reels with dual breaks but I'm pretty sure that the reel you have is just magnetic breaks. I'm thinking the dial on the outside corresponds with the numbers on the inside...I could be wrong tho.

Your reel has a different dual-braking system than a PQ.

The earlier generation BPS reels having dual-braking (PQ, Prolite Finesse, Rick Clunn/RCX/Carbonblack, some (all?) of the Johnny Morris reels) all had similar design dual-braking systems - the one with Doyo as the patent holder (see scan below).  As BPS sourced reels from OEMs other than Doyo, more "dual-braking" systems were introduced, most having little to do with the original Doyo system.  Your "Prolite Special" (not to be confused with the original "Prolite Finesse") is one of the later reels with a different system. In the current BPS BC reel lineup, probably only the PQ and the Johnny Morris have the Doyo system - all other dual-braking BC reels (Carbonlite, Extreme, et. al.) have different systems.

The manual says its DBS... The inner is 1-4 and is attached to the spool. The mag read 1-10 when they were there.

The Prolite I got my hands on in store looks different than jakob1010's? Did that come off a Prolite combo or something?

Nope.. It's a 10 BB ProLite Special. I bought it about 6-7 months ago in store.

Weird, the one I saw in store and online before they vanished was the same frame and shape, but didn't have the matte black frame, had a black anodized spool and red color in the "window" thing on the non handle side plate.  It was a blueish silver rather than gunmetal in color and I swear had like at least a 90mm handle.  It only appeared online a few weeks ago only to disappear but is still in store as a display..

Yeah, its one of those Special Buy things.. I think they are mostly produced in name only... With a few differences between models in limited quantities. They did make a combo, but the reel only had 7 bearings.

BPS has re-used the "Prolite" name AT LEAST two, and perhaps three times, since the ORIGINAL Prolite Finesse was discontinued in 2009 - each time the reused name was for special buy reels of different designs than the original Prolite. AND, there were three models of the original Prolite Finesse reel (PRL05H, PRL05HB, PRL05HC) just to confuse matters even further.

Re-use of the Prolite name is perhaps good marketing for BPS, leveraging (but gradually destroying) the good rep the original Prolite had; but bad news for anglers since it's hard to keep all the different Prolite iterations straight...

The original Prolite Finesse (3rd model):

Looks like a nice reel. I like my Special pretty good. Is there a reason they did away with the Finesse?

They probably considered the Prolite Finesse redundant with the 1st gen (gold) Carbonlite that was introduced at the same time as the Prolite was discontinued.

Hmmm... What was the original Price point?
