I have been watching some videos online and it seems like most guys are casting 160+ feet. I think I can cast pretty far but it seems like forever in these videos.

I'd say it's more deceiving through the camera eye, kind of like how fishing rods look like their all 9 feet long.

That's just over 50 yards. I got several baits I can cast farther than that.

50 yards is long way.  Under certain conditions I cast further than that, tail wind with a 7'6 or 8' rod using a thin heavy profile lure like a metal jig fish or a kastmaster from an elevated position like a pier or jettie.  Normal bass fishing from boat or waters edge 30 yards is probably longer than I cast.

i never have, but would really like to take a few combos/baits down to the football field for a real world test on how far i can throw it.  

then mix in some buckets or something to try and figure out at what length your accuracy begins to fail.  but somehow i feel like i might be asked to leave or at the very least be looked at pretty foolishly.  if i couldn't see the high school from my house i wouldn't care, but my neighbors would think i'm even weirder.  they already think i'm weird for casting in the yard and tooling with my fishing stuff in the garage EVERY NIGHT.

Or a wood punker on a 8ft swimbait rod with a calcutta 400. Most of my big baits will go that far and so will some of my crankbaits. Hard baits with enough weight and the right rod/reel combo go a long way.

As many have said camera deception, but a reel has a lot to do with it. Upgraded bearings can help add some distance, plus drag reduction from different lines. None of these are going to add to make its a magical fight, but get you closer.

 I think cameras can make things look a lot larger than they actually are.  I used to watch a lot of Formula One races and Indycar races on TV.  When I went to my first F1 race at Indy and saw F1 cars for the first time in person. I thought, wow, they look a lot smaller than on TV.  Same thing with Mt Rushmore.  It looks humongous on TV but when you are there, it's big but not as big as it looks on TV.

Heck, I used to wing lures about 200 yds, but after hooking some guy on a rider mower, I try to keep it under 100 yds

All kidding aside, surf-casters do in fact hit 100 and 200 yards (world-record: 313.46 yards)

Agree that with supertuned or even just upgraded

bearings you can get a lot more D out of regular

lures and soft plastics. As I've experienced with 

my 50e reels.

Assuming we are just talking about bass fishing with less that 1oz lures I figured 40 yards was long. I dont worry too much but I notice a difference in distance between my bps pq and my lews tp. Still didn't think some were casting over 160

I cast from shore so am required to cast 30 yards.  (Sorry.  Can't make that extra 70 yards.) 

 

I'd guess most of my casts are in the 30-35 yard range, and I am normally throwing hard.  Obviously I need to work on my technique.  I've done better, but it isn't often enough to be considered normal.

 

Camera focal length has a lot to do with perception.  Will have to Google World Championship Bait Casting just to see how poor I am.

Casting 100 yds + is commonplace using about any off the rack surf rod with a lure that goes thru the air with little resistance.  Gear used for long cast competition take the equipment to an even higher level.  It really has little relevancy in bass fishing.

I replaced the bearings in a couple of my Shimano Calais reels with Boca ceramic bearings, cast a 1/2 oz crank from the north shore of Lake Texoma and intercepted a pass in the Texas Stadium.
