With this time of year being what it is, there are great deals out there everywhere to be had. Some of these deals are so good, you just can't pass them up. Here's what I came across this week and had to buy.

Monday night my buddy was visiting and wanted to go to the local Field and Stream store. As I'm walking around, I notice a St. Croix Avid 7' M-F on the rack is on clearance for $160. I told my buddy "I'll be buying that rod if its still here after the holidays and I have enough left over cash". The next morning, I get two separate emails with a total of $35 in coupons to Field and Stream. So what do I do as soon as I get off of work? Head straight over to the store and I looked that rod over. Everything looked good so I bought it for $125 out the door on a brand new Avid. I thought it couldn't get any better.

Fast forward to today, and while cruising around the internet, I find a Tatula Type R for $129 shipped, brand new. So since I just bought a new rod, I need a reel to go with it, right?! Once again, another deal too good to pass up. I was honestly looking to pick up a Chronarch or Core 51, but I couldn't pass up that deal on the Tatula R.

The reel is a 6.3:1 and I plan on pairing it up with the Avid. I'm not sure what I'll use it for. It would work great for throwing plastics, or I could also probably use it for topwater and smaller cranks and spinnerbaits. It's really just a great all around rod, so I'm not sure what I'll use it for, but either way I have myself a Tatula R and Avid combo for only $255.

Nice!  I've been taking advantage of a lot of great deals for rods and tackle as well.

Nice finds.  Have you used a Tatula reel before?  Got my first ones (one of each) just before the weather got too cold for me.  Regular Tatula hasn't had line spooled on it yet, but I did get out with the Type R twice.  It is a reel I thoroughly enjoy.  Mounted it on a new Tatula 7'2" MHR, but not sure if it will stay there.  Looks awful nice, tho.

It is always nice to get a new rod and reel.  Enjoy yours.....................................................................................next spring.  :teeth:

I've never used them. Only palmed them in the store. I hear good things though. My lineup is mainly all Shimano. This will be my second Daiwa.

Nice I wish I had the money to get in on some deals like that but I've spent it all Christmas shoping!

At least I know I'm getting good stuff from family.

But I did get a type R for $130 of amazon a few months ago, I normally order all my lures and line from TW but reels and rods from eBay,amazon, the outdoor pro etc/.

Well I got my Tatula in yesterday. Overall it's a pretty nice reel for the money. While reeling, it feels very fluid and smooth. It palms nicely and it also has a nice finish to it. My one gripe is that it seems that disengaging the clutch seems to be a little stiff. I'm guessing this is because of how the Twing system works. Does any other users know if this gets smoother after some break in time? The handle knobs also have a tiny bit of wiggle room. This always erks me on a reel, but I can live with it, especially for the price I paid.
