Gotta love a topwater bite from a northern. Unfortunately a lot of them end with line just flying back at you as they have razor sharp teeth.

I agree with that one. When fishing for northerns topwater, I like to use rapala poppers with a steal leader - only way to ensure it doesn't get bit through.

Pretty much. I used to use them all the time as a little kid, but now I just take my chances since the cheap leaders I was buying started breaking before my line despite being rated at twice the strength and new. lol

Woah!  That was awesome!!!!!  I once had a pike sail over the bow of my boat.  It cleared the water by a good 2 feet. Wished I'd gotten that on film.

That thing looked like it was shot out of a cannon!  Too cool.

 

Northerns are built long and sleek, like a rail dragster.  They can accelerate like one, too.  :-)

That is amazing. If you don't have a healthy heart, don't go topwater fishing.
