Super User Senko lover Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Are legs on a frog important to you? I would think that in heavy cover like a mat or thick pads, they wouldn't be that important, but they'd be utilized more in clear water. Thoughts? Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 well, my frogs with skirts work just fine 1 Quote
lmoore Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 I've had them come out and continued to throw for a while. The actual action of the legs isn't important in heavy cover, but I didn't like the way it fished without that extra weight in the back. If I were to take legs out on purpose, I'd glue small weights in the holes the legs came out of. 1 Quote

Weld's Largemouth Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 You mean what I know lol i like the "legs" its the main part of the "sitting" action in open water, however i am sure a bass would slam the frog without the skirt, i mean its moving on the surface and can fit in a bass' mouth so why not. Especially in heavy cover, they just really key in on the movement and vibrations Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 I always fish a frog with its legs. I will cut one leg to be shorter than the other to give the frog better movement in the water. 1 Quote
Matthew2000 Posted December 9, 2014 Posted December 9, 2014 Nope look at the Boze ZZ walker frog with no legs that works great Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Certainly do. I modify hollow body frogs for use on the Lake Guntersville mats like the white one. I remove the legs and put lead weights in place of them so they will be more noticeable to bass under that thick mat. I add rattles to the nose for extra noise. I was shown that technique by some Guntersville regulars. 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted December 9, 2014 Author Super User Posted December 9, 2014 I trim the skirts on mine but haven't experimented with taking them off altogether. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Sure, lots of people take the legs off when fishing mats to prevent short strikes. Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 I drag a Mann's Ghost (which doesn't have legs or a skirt) through slop all the time. Even when it's not able to "walk the dog" in open water it still catches fish so no, you don't need legs. Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 Bass hit frogs w/legs, so there is your answer. Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted December 9, 2014 Super User Posted December 9, 2014 I gotta admit, the title of this thread threw me for a second. And that's all I will say. Hootie Quote
RSM789 Posted December 10, 2014 Posted December 10, 2014 Yes I would, although it is obvious that I would have to be sitting down to do it. Quote
8inch....lizard Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Been doing this for a while still haven't gotten the satisfaction of a hollow belly frog hit, lmao Quote
Jaderose Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 Yes....Cutting the legs off a Pad Crasher Jr. creates this spastic little nugget that, to me, acts like a Big June Bug or Cicada. It's another tool in the topwater bag that works well Quote
hunterPRO1 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 if it has white legs i cut them very short to keep fish from grabbing just legs. i have caught fish on legless frogs, i dont think it makes a ton of difference. Quote
Deephaven Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I usually have a long legged, short legged and no legged frog tied up when that is the bite I am after. Quite often the legless one wins the most bites Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted August 26, 2022 Global Moderator Posted August 26, 2022 My most productive frog has always been the original Scum Frog. All it has is one puff of strand out the middle. Mike Quote
