Hooks On Hard Baits

I'm looking at getting a few jointed swimbaits, but they are very expensive and I have already lost one. So my solution is to think about changing the hooks. Now this isn't a small topic, it covers all the hardbaits so I believe it just may spark an interesting conversation. Back to the hooks I've thought about changing to doubles or singles to not tear the fish's mouth as much and make it less of a snag hazard. So the question is... Have any of you guys used them, has it increased or decreased your hookup ratio, and what baits does it work for and what baits does it throw off balance?

I have seen weed less trebles that would be better for your idea

Or just get a cheap crappy lire to practice with. Top anglers can throw a ball of trebles into a mountain of steel wool and retrieve it clean

The question is how to make them less snagless? You could probably try double hooks like in a hollow body frog so no point faces forward. I would imagine it should help. What jointed baits are you looking at and what is "expensive" for you?

Your better off going with smaller size treble hooks. These hooks will make it much more snag resistant than either the original hooks or single hooks. The smaller trebles will hug the body of the bait, and are much less prone to digging into cover.

Just so you know it's been done already.  First off saltwater fishermen have been known to replace trebles with single hooks.  Yozuri has a circle hook series of jerkbaits and Shimano's waxwings are made with a double hook pointing upwards.  The hooks are replaceable and can be pointed up or down.  Don't think the waxwing would work well as the hooks face inward, but  I think the circle just may work.  Be an inexpensive test to find out.
