Super User J Francho Posted November 26, 2014 Super User Posted November 26, 2014 If you can turn every lost fish into an opportunity to up your game, you're doing something VERY right. 2 Quote
BammerBass Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 oh certainly I agree a 5 is definitely doable. Heck I lost one mid way up that same pier a couple weeks ago, and I could tell just by looking at it that it was a solid 4, which defi iteky woulda been a personal best for me if I had successfully landed it and got her in my hands She had thst little light rod bent into basically a U. Did grt her up out of the water and it looked like she had a mouth almost big enough to put my fist in..... but my I patience/overexcitement caused me to lose her shoulda just let her tire down a bit more and work her over to the bank where dsd would have been able to ease over snd grab her. But hey, lesson lewrned from thet battle I think helped me land my last one, or else I may have lost it too to overreagerness. Dang it now I wish I had a hut right there to live in and go out there every darn day lol. All this talk in this topic and all the other topics ia makings water at the mouth for more way I carried on when inflamed that 2lber any seasoned "vet" woulda laughed at me, or anyone else for thet matter would have thought was nuts (theu would likely be right if they thoughts LOL). Ah but that rush I got from that fish was awesome, took me back to my days as a kid, and that is ehst its all about, enjoying the day and having fun. "Inflamed"...... just gotta LOVE auto correct huh? Quote

I am far from being a seasoned vet but no one has the right to laugh at you for that. It's all about personal goals and in the end, if you had fun then who cares what anyone else thinks? My PB was a 16 incher up until a couple of months ago. Believe me, I paraded a photo of it around to all my friends haha. Besides, a 2lb bass on light gear is just as fun as catching a 5lber on heavier gear in my opinion. 1 Quote
BammerBass Posted November 26, 2014 Author Posted November 26, 2014 Oh heck yeah, that waa an absolute blast!!! 5 foot 6 zebco light action rod and reel thst my late mother bought me years ago as a bday present, 4 lb line, silver minnow panfish assassin on a 1/16 oz jig, that was fun, fun, fun!!!! All the more specisl to me it came on thst rod my mother bought me. I wouldn't tske all the money in the world for it. She loved fishing too, and got excited about catching a nice bass like I do. So.I guess perhaps one could say she is doing her fishing theough me now. 1 Quote
BammerBass Posted November 27, 2014 Author Posted November 27, 2014 One thing that was especially encouraging about this catch was the hook set. Dad told me when he was down wt the water about to walk back up with it there was no way it was going to spit the hook because it hooked in a tough part of its mouth and it swallowed it a good ways. So to enable him to get back up, had to cut the line ans then extract the hook with a pair of pliers. So that tells me that it e videntily liked the way I was retrieving(slow and steady) and twitching the jig a couple times on the way (bit on the fall down after the twitch). So maybe if I can catch a day with similar conditions, I can find similar success Quote
