m1abrams Posted November 22, 2014 Posted November 22, 2014 I love catfishing but I'm very new Kansas I'd like to find a fishing buddy to show me around a little and help me find what sorta bait is normally used here and where to fish. I'm ust to backwoods river fishing and everything here seems strange lol...I'm not ask for the honey holes or nothing just some ideas and a partner every once in a while. I'm in junction city but I'm willing to go further on the weekends. I try to get away from work on the weekends. Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 23, 2014 Global Moderator Posted November 23, 2014 I grew up around Junction City, lots of good catfishing around that area. Milford is starting to produce fish that are getting close to state record size (blue cats) and is packed full of eating sized fish to mid range size fish in the 20-40 pound range. Pott. 2 is a great place for eater sized channels with some bigger ones (my dad caught a 17lb channel there long time ago). Tuttle Creek is a great catfish lake for channels and monster flatheads. Republican River can be really good, as can the Big and Little Blue rivers. Rocky Ford is good for channels and the occasional flathead. My dad and I used to catch lots of catfish by putting on old tennis shoes and shorts and wading those feeder creeks and smaller rivers with punch bait and sponges, good memories. 1 Quote

I'm in junction city but I'm willing to go further on the weekends. I try to get away from work on the weekends. I am stationed at Fort Riley, KS. Breakneck Lake on post is great for bass fishing, as well as catfishing. Just make sure you make an account on isportman (google it). I have tons of success with soft plastics and spinner baits on Breakneck Lake. I don't fish at Milford much, but have heard that there are a lot of good areas for bank fsherman. One thing I would definitely consider investing in this winter, when the waters are frozen, is a kayak. Dicks Sporting Goods has some decent ones. They will allow you to access places you could only dream about from the bank. PM if you have any more questions about the area. Quote
