Hondabiker95 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 So say I have an extra Veritas 2.0 6'6" MH Brand new. It's actually one of 3 of the same length and action (one of 2 that work). I don't want to go into too much detail about where it came from to avoid and BS. (It's not stolen or bought illegally, I don't do that type of thing. I might even change my mind and comment where it came from). It just has a slightly bowed bottom guide foot that most likely will never affect casting performance or lifetime of the rod, I'm just so picky. So needless to say I have another one that is perfect now. Since I don't need 2 of the same rod, I was hoping I could trade it out at BPS. The rod tag has no BPS sticker on it and I obviously don't have a receipt. If I can explain that to them by saying it was a gift, will they trade it out? Or should I just be honest and say, "look I have a brand new rod, didn't come from you guys, but your source. Trade it?" I just want a 7' MH Mod-Fast (Veritas or Veracity if I get store cred.) I'd like to make it my dedicated worm & light jig rod. Anyone know where I can get it off my hands for Store Credit or trade it if not BPS? Quote
Missourifishin Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 "look I have a brand new rod, didn't come from you guys, but your source. Trade it?" I have no idea what you mean by "your source". So that kind of confuses me. But if you're asking about doing anything dishonest, I doubt anyone around here is going to encourage it. Quote
adam32 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 I wouldn't try and return it to bass pro (or any other store),since you didn't buy it there it's not their problem. I would say keep it or sell it to someone and tell them what is wrong with it. Chalk it up to a lesson learned for next time. Quote

But if you're asking about doing anything dishonest, I doubt anyone around here is going to encourage it. It was sent to me by Pure Fishing. That's what I'm trying to avoid here is dishonesty. I don't think it'd make much of a difference to BPS though, right? I mean they'd still sell it. I might just go ahead and try to put up a classified ad for a trade. Quote
Hondabiker95 Posted November 20, 2014 Author Posted November 20, 2014 It's such a little blemish, I've bought rods that looked worse in all honesty. Garcia's QC just isn't good. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 It would be dishonest to take it to any dealer to obtain store credit, etc.. Unless, the rod company's warranty explicitly states, and if retailer agrees to such.... Since it was sent to you by Abu, via mail, sell it locally Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Why not just take it up with ABU directly? 3 Quote
Missourifishin Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Why not just take it up with ABU directly? That's what I would suggest. If that doesn't work, put it up for sale elsewhere. Quote
RF813 Posted November 20, 2014 Posted November 20, 2014 Why not just take it up with ABU directly? That's what i'd do as well, or just straight up sell it. You don't want to do anything dishonest, but what you're asking isn't exactly ethical, either. Just the fact that you have to ask should give you your answer. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 It's super sketchy to try to return stuff to a store where you didn't buy it. It doesn't matter that they sell the product, it's still dishonest and should not be done. You should sell it yourself and use the cash as a "store credit". Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 would not only be completely dishonest, but returns don't work like you think they do. sometimes they get marked down or re-sold. more often, they are returned to the manufacturer or field destroyed. this only leads to products being more and more expensive over time as a cost of doing business. Super User J Francho Posted November 20, 2014 Super User Posted November 20, 2014 As a retailer, if a good customer came to me, and divulged all the info, and I carried the line, I might do the exchange. It would depend on the distributor's return policy. I'm not sure you'll get that from Bass Pro, but there's nothing dishonest about full disclosure. The worst they can do is say no. 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted November 21, 2014 Posted November 21, 2014 You're asking permission to commit fraud? Uhhhmmm.....sure go ahead. I don't have to look at you in the mirror. 1 Quote
