Rippinlips14 Posted November 10, 2014 Posted November 10, 2014 Do yall have any ideas why it's 12 pound sufix siege and every hook set it digs into it self Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted November 10, 2014 Super User Posted November 10, 2014 My guess is it isn't spooled on tight enough 1 Quote
Rippinlips14 Posted November 10, 2014 Author Posted November 10, 2014 Ya I checked that but it is im not sure what it is, It's brand new line Quote
Fish Whacker Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 stuff sucks, honestly think trilene's better Quote
Super User everythingthatswims Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 Suffix Siege 20lb is what I use to fish my swimbaits, up to 4.5oz, never had any issues with it at all. I have used 17lb for my jig rod too, no issues. Not sure about the 12 though, I tried some suffix elite 12lb on a rod I use for t-rigs, spinnerbaits, etc and I thought it was a little springy and large in diameter. But it never dug in, you probably don't have it spooled on tight enough. 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 What is your cast to hookset ratio? What I'm suggesting is if you are tossing a wacky or a trig plastic worm, it could just be that after multiple reel- ins your line has softly been respooled, then bam! You jerk and get line dig in... It happens. It's just a guess though. Quote
basshole8190 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Yea possible your drag may be set too tight. Never used less than 17lb tho I like siege line Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You need Suffix 832 advanced, best braid out there 1 Quote
Rippinlips14 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 stuff sucks, honestly think trilene's better It cast amazing we'll see how it goes tomorrow I walker all the line out and then reeled back in and hope fully put it on tighter we'll see tomorrow 1 Quote
Rippinlips14 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 You need Suffix 832 advanced, best braid out there[/quote This is mono not braid 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 light braid will dig in. Go to much thicker braid. I use 65 pound on flippen, pitchen, and frog rod. No problem digging in. Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 You need Suffix 832 advanced, best braid out there[/quote This is mono not braid Still need to make the switch Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 I use 8# Siege on Medium rods and 12# Siege on MH rods. Never had a digging in problem....but my hookset ain't much to brag about and fishing here sucks so it isn't like I make a lot of hooksets. I do make a lot of casts, tho. At least one of my reels making the trip with me next year to Florida will have 12# Siege on it. I do get to make more hooksets then. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I used 10, 12, and 14 Siege all year with no problems, it's great line I switched from yo zuri hybrid because it's more manageable and just as strong, though I want to try Gamma copolymer to see if it's better still. 1 Quote
Rippinlips14 Posted November 11, 2014 Author Posted November 11, 2014 Still need to make the switch Why would I use braid for texas rigs instead fluro and mono. I use braid for flipping and pitching and topwater. 1 Quote
Super User *Hootie Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 I have been using some 12# Siege lately and not having any problems at all. Hootie Quote
Weld's Largemouth Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 Why would I use braid for texas rigs instead fluro and mono. I use braid for flipping and pitching and topwater. braid for everything, use a leader if you feel necessary or if you have toothy critters, but in florida I always use straight up 20 lb braid Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 11, 2014 Super User Posted November 11, 2014 Not everyone likes braid for everything. I fall in that camp. in fact, if can AVOID braid, I will do it. It has no slack line sensitivity, tangles easily, can be problematic with dig ins on baitcaster, and wind knots on spinning gear are infuriating. That said, around half my rigs have it. As far as the original question, dollars to donuts the line wasn't spooled up with enough tension. I used Suffix in 12, 14, and 17 lb. sizes for years (after switching from Trilene) without issue. These days, I use 12 or 15 lb. CXX for Texas rigs, though if you're having management issues with the Sufix, that line might not be for you. It can be a handful. 1 Quote

MO_LMB Posted November 11, 2014 Posted November 11, 2014 I second J Francho, I avoid braid at all costs. Quote
guitarglynn1 Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 stuff sucks, honestly think trilene's better why do you think it sucks? It is one of my go to lines and I love the stuff. I mostly use elite and started using siege only this summer and I have nothing bad to say about it. have not used the 12lb though. mostly 6,8,10 Quote
FunkJishing Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 that sufix elite is good stuff, and i too avoid braid. lol Quote
hatrix Posted November 12, 2014 Posted November 12, 2014 Siege is a good mono and its cheap at that. I can't comment about the smaller tests but I have liked 17 and 20#. I also like elite but only ever used it on spinning but have no complaints. For me though its CXX for everything if possible now a days. Like J said though if your having trouble with siege I would stay away from CXX. That's not one you want to play with if your already having issues with just mono. Quote
