How many casting rod/reel combos do you own and how many of those don't really get used?  And how much do you have invested in these combos?  I just bought my 9th reel and I absolutely didn't need or even want another one, but I can't seem to stop...lol.  I probably only use 5 on a regular basis.  Now I'm looking for another rod that I don't need.  I've got about $3500 in these set ups (8 rods, 9 reels).  I never dreamed I'd be sucked in like this.  My wife has no idea, my fishing buddies have no idea.  Please

brothers, help me not feel so ridiculous:)

8 combos and 1 spare reel?

Rookie.

Lol.  A few years ago I had 2 casting combos with a total investment of about $300.  I guess I'm just surprised how much money I've put into chasing these fish.

I have 2 combos as well. I am a minimalist when it comes to purchasing gear. Not that im cheap or anything but I love the familiarity I get with using one rod for multiple techniques.

I currently have 11 Denali Rods and reels to accompany with them.  When tournament fishing, I usually take 6 to 8 in the boat depending on the possible techniques to be used.

As my friends say, "and you don't even eat the fish!!!"

I would say 5 or 6 I use or would have out on the water. The rods I pick vary though depending on where it is and what im throwing. They pretty much get used depending on the situation but some more then others and they are more suitable for what lures I use most and places I fish most often. If I am bank fishing I would want to have just as many but it would be far to much work and a pain in the ass. I usually bring 2 or 3 and prefer to bring 3 if I feel up to it. Changing the way I fish and wanting to throw the big stuff just added more weight and another rod to what I would like to bring. If I can absolutely only bring 1 rod its the big one hands down but I like to keep some options open and or not have to. I would rather have the power to throw bigger stuff then have a rod more suited for a wider range of baits. don't get me wrong I would throw a 1/4 3/8oz jog or like a little hollow belly or square bill if I had to on a M/H swimabait rod. I have in the past it will still get it done and bomb some lures just as far but its not ideal.

I own nine rods and eleven reels. Use regularly three for bass and one for inshore. It can get rediculous if you are not careful. What's gotten me in the past is upgrading to nicer stuff. I would say I gotten an average of four hundred in each combo. Some more. It's too much. Today i lost most of my arsenal.... And promised myself this.... I will stick to what's neccessary and shop for value for here on out.

There's been a couple times this year that I had 15 strapped to the front deck of my little 15' johnboat, which only leaves another 7-9 combos at home in the garage  :laugh5:

Below are the MINIMUM all bass fishermen should own :

Spinning : Drop Shot , Shakyhead , Small Topwater

Baitcast : Carolina Rig , Football Jig , T-Rig , Jerkbait , Topwater , Crankbait

The above make 9 combos ... If you have grass then add a Pitching / Flipping outfit as well to make an even 10 . :blob9:

I own 10 casting combos and 5 spinning combos. 5 of the casting rigs and 2 spinning rigs are in the starting lineup. The others get used occasionally.

I don't have a lot of money invested, most of them were bought used or on clearance sales. I have WAY more money tied up in lures than I do in rods and reels.

I know i dont have enough lol

Ain't that the truth.  :teeth:  Let's just say that I have more than I need, but nowhere near as many as I'd like.  Too bad I can't afford to join a club, or own a bassboat.

I have an embarrassing amount considering:

A) I rarely tournement fish. I'm not even officially in a club. I only occasionally ride shotgun with the pa-in-law in his tourneys.

B) I don't own a boat. Not a powerboat. I do have a kayak. ... but I don't own anything resembling a "bass boat"

C) I really am on the bottom rung financially. Its simply not possible to make any less than me and support a family of 3 with no government assistance. But I do it.

All that being said- when out on the bass boat, I take at LEAST 6 setups. Sometimes 7. When I am inshore kayak fishing I have 3 baitcasting and one spinning. When I'm bass fishing inthe kayak. ... I have 4 baitcasting- different than my boat rods.

Altogether off the top of my head I would say I have 20 or so baitcasting combos and maybe 5 spinning. I have about 6 reels laying about for whatever reason. .... maybe a rod or two? Not sure.

In my defense though, a large portion ( espicially the reels) are hand me downs. So I have MAYBE a grand into all those set ups. .....so that's not too bad.

Now

.......tackle on the other hand. ......

26 casting combos, I typically bring all of them along on any given day and most days all of them get used at least some... I also bring 5 spinning combos along for the ride... Total investment is not too crazy I average around 200 dollars per casting combo and 150 per spinning. so all in all around 6000 for rods and reels...

I have 3 casting and 4 spinning combos.

Next year, I plan to add at least one more casting combo instead spinning.

Don't know how many I have, but my goal for next year is to take it all the way down to 3 baitcasters for tourneys (co-angler and solo); one of those being for big cranks. So with one spinning rod, I'll only have 4 in the boat. As of now, I'd typically have 6 to 8. So I have to figure out how to get 2 casting rods/reels/lines that cover everything I do except the deep cranks and the finesse stuff. Good news is, I don't throw swimbaits; but it still could be tough.

8 casting combos, 4 spinning combos. Plus a few spare sticks for special applications.

My reels are all in the $2-300 range, and my rods are all in the $100-250 range, so do the math.

Welcome to the dark side.....  I'm in the same boat.  I try to rotate what I take with me each trip to give each rod/reel regular exercise and rationalize the money I've spent on about 3X what I 'need'.  Gotta admit though, it's fun....
