WARNING THIS IS A RANT.

So I went fishing today. Before leaving the house I was thrilled that I was able to go outdoors to enjoy the wonders and excitement of nature. Just thinking about that beautiful sunrise, the water gently splashing on the bank of the lake, taking in all the fresh air, seeing the birds fly, deer run, and the fish jumping, yep, sounded really good in my head until I got to the lake. Then I saw it.

Why? That’s the only question that kept running through my head. Why would anyone that calls themselves an outdoorsman do such a thing?  Are you so lazy that you can’t throw away your beer bottles and cans? Your fishing bait cups scattered along the shore line. Is this what I defended your freedom for? So you could trash up this country? Most days it really sickness me that I share the same air as these people, these nasty, lazy, unappreciated, disrespectful scum. I really wish you could understand how good you have it here in the USA, and to see this kind of crap scattered all over a lake really disappoints me.

Whenever someone finds out you have been in the military, you always hear “thank you for your service” or “I(we) support the troops”. Well that’s nice and all, but the best way you can support this troop, is to cherish what I fought for, our country. Pick up after yourself, I not saying you have to clean up everything(unless you brought it), but picking up a little is better than nothing.

For those that are not that smart I got pictures for you!

1.Trash goes in these.

2. Pick trash up.

3. Put in can.

4. Done.

Easy right?

Kept this posting as clean as I could.

Have a nice day.

I hear ya. I was fishing a month or two ago and

some military guys - well, at least one was in his

uniform, were out around lunch time in a jon boat

motoring around (electric).

Turns out they were a little tipsy, or flat out drunk.

I returned by the way they trolled out, and guess

what was floating in the waters I fish?! Beer cans.

They had a cooler and were popping cans while I

was fishing, so I know it was them...they left a trail

to follow.

That's not all they did that was stupid. But I wasn't

too happy about the trash. Probably should have

reported them to the rangers, but other things got

in the way....

One jumped in the water while the dude controlling

the motor did donuts around the guy in the water...

Laughter and suds were the reward.

That's pretty bad.  There's a section of river I like to bank fish that is only accessible by a trail that passes by the low side of a dam, and the fishing spot there looks like a landfill most times. The best piles usually include the remains of a small campfire with half a charred carp sticking out of it.  Never fails to amaze me how lazy people are, or maybe it's just immaturity.  A lot of people who are old enough to know better still think being an adult means they don't have to do anything they don't feel like doing, and the novelty of not having a parent nagging them to pick up after themselves has never worn off.

Thank you for your service.

Lots of folks fought for our freedoms way before you & I did... Litterbugs abound, I don't like it either, but that's life..& freedom. Freedom comes with a lot of personal responsibility. Many folks make mistakes or exercise bad judgment. We have to take the bad with the good. There's no other way. That is exactly why America is the greatest country in the world.

I think you may be preaching to the choir with the original post.  I would wager that nearly all of the members of this site take good care of the environment for the selfish reason that they enjoy using it.  Its those who don't fish or hunt much or at all that destroy the outdoors and those folks aren't here.

Spring time is especially good for picking up trash on all our waters.  Waters been low all winter and the rising water makes it easier to grab on the electric.  Carry trash bags in boat for this.  Hats off to people who clean sections of road of trash.

Ranting to a forum loaded with responsible anglers probably won't fix a litterbug issue.  I generally like to lead via action.  When your done, grab a plastic bag from your tackle bag, and pick up trash in the vicinity.  Leave that spot cleaner than it was when you got there.  Some will get the hint without you saying a word.

Littering is not a "freedom."  It's against the law.  To me it's just an illegal activity, with consequences if you are caught. In the meantime, I pick up crap when I see it.
