New here, and new to fishing actively for bass since I just got my first boat this summer.  I just purchased a 7'6" MH F rod.  The plan is to use it to pitch and flip, jigs, carolina rigs, and maybe some frogs (I need to try them out).  What line would be recommend that could cover all of those.  I only have one reel for this rod. I was thinking 20lb fluorocarbon, or maybe braid then use a fluorocarbon leader if I am carolina rigging or using a jig in open water.

Thanks.

I assume this is a baitcast reel.  If so, then 20# fluoro should be fine or 40# braid with the same 20# fluoro leader.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

I would use braid, then a leader as necessary

X2 ... flourocarbon is the worst line for frog fishing from my findings plus it sinks. For the applications you mention braid will work just fine. As noted use a leader when appropriate.

Definitely braid with fluoro leader if necessary. I like the albright knot for leaders. It allows the braid to really "coat" the knot. It really depends on what kind of cover you're pitching to though as far as what you need as a mainline, but good luck trying to walk a frog with fluoro.

Seaguar Smackdown and Sunline FX2 are pretty much indestructible if you're fishing a lot of heavy cover.

If you are new to bass fishing, are you also new to baitcasters? If so, I wouldn't use 20 flourocarbon if I am new to baitcasters. Cheap mono would be best and then braid.

I would agree with 50# braid being your best option. Since you want to c-rig and throw frogs I assume hollow and not buzz you almost need the braid. If not for that I would say 15# copoly. You could get away with that even with frogs and c-rig maybe but its not ideal.

For a new baitcasting reel I can't agree more than the suggestions of a good copolymer in #15 since it is really 20lb test plus. I would get used to the reel by using 20 lb trilene Big game or 17 depending on how thick the cover is. Berkley Trilene Big game is the first line I put on all new casting reels until I learn the settings and how the reel throws different weights, and big game is a line that is a good mix of all the properties you want-Floats, abrasion resistant, not too stiff as fluoro will be expensive if you backlash a few times and need to re spool, plus it takes awhile to get the hang of fluoro on any reel no matter how experienced you are.

Look at line diamater and then search for breaking strenghs since you can buy 20 lb test line that is actually the thickness of 30 and will killl casting distance as well as kill the action of the frog since it is too thick...40lb braid and suffix 832 is my personal favorite on casting reels although Stren Sonic braid handles well also and is tightly woven so I never have issues.....

Welcome to BR.

Sunline SuperSniper in 16 lb/ .013 Dia., is a good choice @ $24 /200 yd spool.

Use a line conditioner on any FC line to help manage the memory and wet the line.

I use Tangle Free., (Cabalas).

You need a good knot with FC, learn the San Diego Jam knot, east to tie and a good FC knot.

Tom.
