Nice looking rod.  Was surprised it arrived in one piece.  Came in a weak cardboard box.  Only rod (of about 35) that I received broken came in a PVC tube (one end was completely open).

I have a used Alphas F scheduled to arrive tomorrow.  Thinking this might make a good pair although I also have a Fuego with no home yet.  If I still lived where I did at the first of this year, I would throw an Alphas 103L on it tonight, and head to the river for a little casting practice.  This Alphas is also looking for a home as is a Curado 201E I purchased last winter.  :teeth:

I have been told these are strong rods (and light, sensitive, well built).  Although the tip and base section near the handle appear to be very close to the same diameters as my Falcon Expert of the same length and power rating (7' M), it is obvious the center section has a larger diameter.  This may (should?)  lend credence to its being a stronger rod.

I have great expectations for this rod based on what a couple Online friends have told me about how well they like theirs.  Although it says 705F on the rod, it was advertised as having a Moderate action.  Action appears to be a bit faster than my 7' M Prodigy, and definitely faster than my 7' M Expert.  I'm thinking the Moderate advertisement is off.

Love to hear from others using this line of rods.  How do you like them?  What techniques do you fish on them?  Any other comments also welcome.

Wow.  231 views and not one comment on the rod.  Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out the Smoke gets no love on this forum.  Think I'll stop at the Lehigh River boat ramp on the way home tomorrow and make a few casts with it.  Alphas arrived today.  Might as well try both at the same time.

You let me try it out and I'll give you comments on it :D

You know you are welcome try any of mine combos as long as you aren't eating taffy.  :laugh5:

If the rod say 705F it is the 7' medium power fast action, it is rated 8-17 line and 1/4 - 3/4 lure weight.  If you got the moderate one it would have been 705M which would have 8-14 line and 1/4 - 3/4 lure weight. What happened is the place you got it from had them mixed up and they sent you the medium fast instead of the medium moderate.

What you plan on using the rod for? Were you wanting the Moderate specifically?

I have 2 of the 705F rods. With you mentioning about it being faster than your Prodigy and Expert is this where how it bends down the rod or how quickly it rebounds from being deflected? Im feeling its with how quickly it rebounds I think of this as being a crisp feel more than an action (dont know if there is technical term for it). The rod isnt what I'd call extra-fast action. The rod flexes down the blank like a fast action its just once the force is removed it goes straight, quickly, and doesnt wiggle so to speak. My take is this crisp response lends to better sensitivity.

Being biased towards the M/F and not having used the Mod rod I think you mistakenly got sent the better action :)

And yes no love for the smoke but its their loss.

Oh your rod have the hook keeper on the front of the handle or between the split grip?

My first one, bough a few years ago, its up front. On the one I recently got its been moved between the grips.

Hook keeper is between the split grips.  I was referring to how far down the rod it bends.  Kind of hard to be exact when flexing one in each hand.  Haven't made a cast with it yet so I don't know about rebound.  I don't like much personally.

I figure it is other peoples loss as well even though I haven't made a cast with it yet.  The first Online friend to tell me about the Smoke fishes with GLX, Cumulus, Megabass, etc. rods.  The 2nd Online friend was a tournament fisherman with experience using GLX rods before health and then financial woes due to bad health forced him to find lower cost alternatives.  Both were impressed with the Smoke so I'm sure I will also be considering my most expensive rids are Zillions, a Cumara and a couple customs I picked up at super prices..

Action wasn't critical to my selection.  I have 2 MXF, 1 Medium crankbait and the rest Fast, so a Moderate would have been okay...maybe even desired.  But I am not going to complain given it cost me less than $100 to my door.  :teeth:
